The Best Shounen-Ai Anime Out There? (86)

1 Name: Nox Puss : 2007-02-18 16:11 ID:42jurexn

I'm running out of shounen-ai to watch...stuff I've already seen and liked: Sukisho/Sukisyo, Gravitation, Loveless, Gakuen Heaven...also, if there are any good anime with crossdressing men in, I wanna know :p Ta in advance!

77 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2010-01-19 02:48 ID:XS7qWF0J

my favorite one is Loveless, because its not graphic. i would have liked junjo romantica, if it didnt have so much, uh, you know what i mean. ._.
i also loved Gravitation. :D it was my first shonen-ai anime, and the reason i watched it was because one of my friends was really into it. XD
now im really into it!

I like boys kissing lol but girls are hella nasty
umm my recommendations are ones that have either not been listed or not enough, they are however more shonen ai hints more than anything though

Kuroshitsuji (black butler) one of my fav anime's ever and i think they totally got their moments <3 (there is a gay dude in it too but it is funny and sad i love it)

07 ghost -serious hints, lots of hugging, no graphic though

Monochrome Factor -good but kinda gets repetative

and another fav of mine is Junjou Romantica -it has parts but doesn't show their parts u just kinda gotta figure, the manga however makes sure u know whats happening haha

Anime/Manga That You Are Too Ashamed To Admit You Like (42)

1 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2009-08-07 05:15 ID:MzukpOd9

Inspired by the "What anime really surprised you and why?" thread, I think it's time we fess up and say that that one series we always insult, belittle, or just ignore is actually the one that touched us deep in our heart.

For me the main one that pops into mind is Gravitation. It and couple episodes of Loveless are the only two shōnen-ai animes I've ever seen, but I ended up really liking this to the point that I even read the manga too. I don't even remember why I started watching it, but the drama and dynamics between Shuichi and Eiri kept me hooked. Of course I'll never admit this and have on more than one occasion made fun of Gravitation with my friends, but somewhere deep in my closest is a box with all 12 manga volumes and the anime boxset lovingly packed away.

Hetalia is the other one that I've recently become pretty obsessed with but hide from others. Enough of my friends have seen the anime that I feel comfortable admitting that I like to watch it, but if anyone asks if I've read the web comic I pretend like I don't even know there is a web comic.

So yeah, please share your secret anime loves or better yet, any stories you may have about being caught or something. It'll be cool to read and who knows, you it may even inspire us to watch something we normally would not.

[liveaction]Full metal panic?! Zac Efron!? (18)

1 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2009-04-12 11:31 ID:MzIdI1iZ

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i701e5f503331aba0beae0430fe927543

Check out this blogger who writes his views on it here: http://holding-on-still.blogspot.com/2009/04/full-metal-panic-live-action-zac-efron.html

I liked FMP a lot, it was very good and funny, hopefully they don't ruin it(though it is a high probability) like they did to dragonball z(haven't watched the movie myself :\ so basing this on reviews i heard)What do you guys think on this? Zac doesn't look or seem like he would be a good sousuke.

9 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2009-04-18 21:00 ID:E+wUoqDo

That sucks. Instead of making new and interesting stuff, they rehash stuff.

And not even that is done right, just look at that horrible Dragonball movie.

Just because me and some other dude were the only ones in the theater didn't mean anything right!?

It wasn't so bad... A fragment of my soul died that day, but it wasn't so bad. Dragonball Kai FTW

Lets just hope Kaname's blue hair isn't reduced to a few highlights like Bulma ; _ ;

Its fine for Hollywood to make anime movies, but they should have proper consultation from the original creator and the director. You know, that will not only improve the quality of the movie, also it will help in getting acceptance from the fans of the work.
And Zac Efron is the theatrical equivalent to the Jonas Brothers in music. Both are effeminate shitty pussies. There's no way he can be accepted in the movie of FMP, even if he is in a cameo.

13 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2009-06-18 05:06 ID:Heaven

Just throwing this out there: the books describe Kaname's hair as being black. I'd, personally, be more upset if LA Chidori had blue hair.

14 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2009-06-20 18:38 ID:M3T0wWYX

seriously folks, hollywood just fuck a perfectly good anime (i.e dragonball). and now they are doing it AGAIN in FMP! just leave the anime to the ones who actually knows how to properly adapt anime into movies. idk who but at least it ain't hollywood.

look hollywood just stick where you are good at, adapting marvel and DC comics as well as other threads. and leave anime to those who can faithfully adapt it well into live action. if you still want to stick your nose into the franchise. at least learn from the experts. like watch how the japanese actually make a live action anime.

15 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2009-08-08 04:25 ID:ACIX04TC

Muuu~ This is not cool! Why Zac Efron? Give me 3 good reasons why he should play Souske. Gah, this just ruins it. If it wasn't Zac Efron, I might be okay.

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, why is Hollywood white-washing everything Asian? Look at Dragonball, the new Avatar movie. All of the people where played by white guys. (I don't have a problem with caucasian people, ftr.) It feels so unfitting to have random people get spray-tanned and have them play what an Asian should have. Apparently, Hollywood thinks that it can make a profit by doing things this way. ;_;

16 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2009-08-08 07:22 ID:JI7Wpovb

>>14
Or actually watch the anime they're making the live action out of. Seriously, Zac Efron? The fag who stars in that gag-inducing High School Musical? How the fuck could he pass off as a society-ignorant soldier who blows shit up 24/7 thinking everything's a trap? It's obvious they're not doing it for the people who actually watched the series - just for the raving fan-girls of that stupid piece of shit. Absolutely disgusting.

17 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2010-01-10 10:52 ID:xe8z3qPq

It's funny you guys really hate Hollywood versions. I'm always looking forward to see every Hollywood remake comes to Tokyo. those are just interesting no matter if the quality is good enough. I can enjoy either way. I hope they make Fumoffu in live
action.
BTW, Matrix Revolutions was an excellent DBZ!!

18 Name: Another Random Anime Otaku : 2010-03-05 13:43 ID:Xv5WIyiK

Hahahahaha Zac Efron? I don't even think he can even fit in the extras of FMP hahaha I would laugh my as* out if that live action comes out of the big screen...I will really get a big megaphone and shout at Zac's fans "THIS IS FAIL!! I REPEAT THIS IS NO...ZAC IS FAIL!!" xD

What anime really surprised you and why? (14)

1 Name: Shinketsu : 2009-07-30 16:10 ID:0fhthTD8

(Sorry for the long post)

Oh and try to keep it on the more obscure level. i.e. no BLEACH, DEATH NOTE, NARUTO etc.
HERE GOES:

Mine was Planetes. I was at a used record store trying to find something new to watch. Everything was pretty much sold out, when I stumbled on this box set of Planetes. The cover wasn't much to look at, and the "Anime Legends" heading made it look even worse. The cover was some guy in an orange spacesuit desperately trying to grab a floating screw in space. I thought to myself at the time "That looks stupid."

I turned it over and read the back, which revealed it's an anime about "space garbage men." "Even more stupid." I chuckled to myself. However, I was desperate so I gave it a chance, and bought it. I took it home, and started to watch it, lo, and behold, IT became one of my most favorite anime EVER!

The story really posseses great drama and showcases humanistic love. It really posseses a message of anti discrimination (for any race, religion, etc.) without being preachy. What's amazing too is that they introduce a large number of characters, but each one is so thoroughly fleshed out, that they all even appear at the final climax. This show truly starts out as a story about space garbage men, and then surprisingly becomes something else much more deeper than that.

Post too long. Click to view the whole post or the thread page.

5 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2009-08-03 14:08 ID:P7SlknPH

Planetes is easily one of my favourite anime, but I realized recently that if I want people to believe me and give it a try I should probably stop describing it as being about "space trash collectors and the power of love", even if that is exactly what it's about.

Mine would probably be Black Lagoon. I kept getting told I should watch it but I thought it was just some shit over-the-top action show. Eventually I tried a couple of episodes when I was all out of other shows, and realized it's so over the top it passes back through to awesome again, which is probably exactly what it's aiming for, and that it's obviously fairly self aware, which always helps you feel less guilty about watching that kind of stuff.

Then I got a little further and saw that a lot of really awesome bits happen not during action scenes but when people are sitting around talking and moralizing, and it manages to pull this off while being neither too simplistic nor too pretentious, and I started to like it even more.

Also the cigarette "kiss" is really fucking cool.

6 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2009-08-04 06:11 ID:Wa4vb5eG

Planetes truly is an amazing anime. Definitely a surprise for me, too, as I also was just looking for something to entertain me for a little while, but recieved something much more.

The anime that surprised me most, though, would be Hunter x Hunter. Normally I despise those types of anime: weak protagonist with a lot of potential goes through numerous trials and becomes strong, but this one seemed to just...grab hold of your heart and never let go. I couldn't stop watching, and eventually I ran out of episodes to watch. It didn't cater to the popular demand of shallow action mixed with romance, like Naruto and Bleach, which made you feel almost connected with the characters.

Also, Hisoka is just pure awesome. Just love his sadistic nature and witty humour.

7 Name: Shinketsu : 2009-08-04 16:24 ID:0fhthTD8

>>5
Yeah I tried Black Lagoon, and I just couldn't into it after watching 4 episodes. Maybe I should give it another chance.

>>6
Hunter x Hunter is great. I watched a few downloaded episodes, and read some manga scans. However, I been trying to find a Good DVD of it so I can watch it on the big screen. It's just really hard to get out here, but I definitely need to check out more of it.

I'm so glad that more people than myself like Planetes. Everytime I mention to my friends out here, they don't know what I'm talking about. I showed it to my best friend, and he was just like "eh." Really though, it's cool that I'm not the only one.

8 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2009-08-06 06:25 ID:Wa4vb5eG

>>7
Yeah, it's really too bad that there aren't many people who know about Planetes. I just wanted to add another anime that also surprised me quite a bit: Wolf and Spice. An anime that's mainly about economics being so fun and interesting? No way! But it's true. Though I'm admittedly more into it for the romance between the two main characters, the merchantry (awesomely made up word) is actually quite interesting. If you can get your hands on it, totally recommended!

9 Name: Shinketsu : 2009-08-06 16:05 ID:0fhthTD8

Sweet! I absolutely love sharing good anime.

Here's another one for you that I thoroughly enjoyed and was a bit surprised.

Hataraki Man

which means "workaholic" in Japanese. The main character is a woman, and when I watched it, I was still 19, and really big into having a male as the lead. This anime is pretty much about work ethic, and the struggles of a job. It sounded super boring to me, but then again I soon realized it was something we can all relate to, because we all dread going to work everyday. SO definitely check it out.

10 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2009-08-06 21:22 ID:Wa4vb5eG

>>9
Haha, that sounds like a fun one. I'll try that one out. Yeah, it's definitely fun to exchange favorite anime and maybe find a new favorite in the process.

I'll give you another: Great Teacher Onizuka. Too much fun to watch. Hilarious antics, great underlying messages, interesting romance plots (though not much romance, in general), and so much more. It's basically about a former gang leader who becomes a teacher of the most delinquent class in a private school, and his bizarre ways of reforming these kids. Great for laughs.

Staying on the humour note, Golden Boy is a real gut-buster. If you're not put off by the graunchy language used, it's definitely worth a watch; garunteed barrel of laughs. It's also short, so you don't have to commit much time to get the most out of it.

Just recently, I watched a movie called Mind Game. It was so crazy it transcended weirdness and became absolutely awesome. It's just...hard to define with words. Definitely worth a watch; it blew my mind away.

Elfen Lied is also quite good, if you don't mind intense gore; especially during the first few minutes.

Oooh, Maison Ikkoku! If you can't get your hands on the manga (which is better, imo) then watch the anime; it's a very well done romance done by none other then Rumiko Takahashi.

Anyone here surely have watch DB, it's base on a Chinese novel "Journey to the west". And another ecchi series like Ikkitousen (Battle Vinxen) or Koihime Musou base on a Chinese novel "Romance of Three Kindom" too. Both of them very famous in Asia. If you want to know more about these title, you shuold read these series too.
And did you read The Ring or Dark Water ? It's also very famous!
Guess everyone here is America, I'm an Asian and read some Western novel like Lord of the ring, Three Musketer.. not a big deal to me ! So tell me what you think about Asia novel ?

Koihime Musou sucks because it turned Zhuge Liang from an incredibly badass genius strategist into a loli moeblob who occasionally supplies the others with a obvious plan because they're even stupider.

I haven't even bothered watching Ikkitousen. I expect its genderswapped Zhuge Liang collects a hundred thousand arrows by getting them shot into her massive tits & ass.

Moomins were popular enough to have two animated series from Japan
