THIS AND THAT FANSUBBING GROUP SUCKS (121)

1 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-04-30 10:41 ID:Heaven

To effectively combine flames, trolls, pitiful arguments and other crap about how you or someone else dislikes a certain fansub group, this thread serves as a general gathering place for all of the hatred that is out there for those who provide their services for free to us.

So, if you have something bad or nasty to say, say it here!

Let them have it!

lol @ scrolling subtitles

What an absolutely retarded idea.

73 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2006-09-09 11:36 ID:Heaven

>>72

About as retarded as subtitles that only reveal part of the text, so you have to keep watching them (and not the rest of the screen) to see when the next bits will appear.

>>73 haha FnT with "The Third", right?
Yeah I saw that -- so annoying!
I had to train my eyes to NOT look at the sub before the text completely appears.

I was thinking Lunar with nearly everything, but whatever works for you.

76 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2006-09-09 23:54 ID:BW9njuwv

>>74

I kind of think you should stop watching The Third in the first place.

Lunar's perfect-timing obsession is kind of annoying, though.

Lunar has a lot of weird policies

The thing of subbing is that even if they made mistake on their sub, no one would notice anyway because we don't know Japanese or else we wont read sub.

81 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-02-14 04:41 ID:SvVRZg4O

In a surprise turn of events, it appears that a member of Nanashi is a jerk. Who'd have thought.

http://www.fansubbers.org/index.php/Wiki/Silverfire

The passive third-person doesn't really help to cover up that he added it himself.

(It took maybe ten minutes to fix Perian up to hide the garbage text in gg stuff, so maybe the VLC developers are also jerks. But still.)

82 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-02-16 21:22 ID:Heaven

shinsen-subs for asshat encodings.

83 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-03-20 03:31 ID:lxjzu33/

The people who subbed Kamen Rider Black have screwy timing.

Shinsen-subs for making made up lines. I remember one D Gray man episode where Lavi's line was subbed to "Don't be such an emo fag Mimi". WTH??!!!!

86 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-10-22 06:59 ID:Nwhq/Myu

^ yeah that was soo idiotic!

87 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-10-22 07:26 ID:ye9l1ucF

Shinsen-subs has practically always sucked.

Though, they're okay every now and then.

88 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-10-22 12:36 ID:Heaven

Shinsen seem to vary widely, probably because they have a lot of translators working for them, and don't seem to care if those translators are horrible or not.

89 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-10-27 21:08 ID:Heaven

Nyoro~n fansubs make up half the stuff in their "translations".

Slowpoke shall now exit... slowly.

90 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-10-29 20:52 ID:FlBp1jhw

yesy for being so goddamn slow with StrikerS

91 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-10-29 21:12 ID:jIVySTmX

Conclave for never finishing a damn series.
Your Mom/Dad/Whatever for being posers.
Shitsen, I mean Shinsen for having crappy ass encodings.

And pretty much every other fansub group other than Eclipse and A.F.K since they're both awesome.

92 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-10-29 21:35 ID:umGrfwPN

Well, AFK's been taking some major heat since they dumped Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei for Clannad, and understandably. Seriously people, who's gonna sub SZS now?

There are like five groups subbing Clannad now too.

Zetsubou Shita.

93 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-10-30 09:00 ID:l8Ez1912

I hate subs with any sort of karaoke at all. Especially the morons who distribute MKVs but then shit all over the benefits of the format by hardsubbing karaoke effects.
Even worse are karaoke effects for songs that happen in the episode itself. The mere decision of subbing them at all can rape scenes almost as horribly as TL notes do.

94 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-10-31 00:40 ID:T8jz4vpg

I'm pretty sure ASS format can do animation too... which makes it even more inconceivable that a group would hardsub karaoke just to make the letters bounce.

95 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-10-31 00:48 ID:Heaven

>>92

"Dumped"?

96 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-10-31 01:05 ID:MrdhKI4d

>>95

Well, he started subbing Clannad, and do you see [a.f.k]Zetsubou 09 anywhere on the tubes?

I suppose he might be trying to do both, but that will take a while.

97 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-10-31 03:16 ID:T8jz4vpg

There's no information about it being dumped though. Remember, there were some huge waits between certain episodes of Lucky Star, and then a whole flood come in a single week. It could just be the same deal all over again.

(Anyway in the case of Clannad, there are plenty of groups doing HD versions, so I feel no need to willingly decrease my viewing pleasure by going with AFK's one.)

98 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-10-31 15:43 ID:qtspfMVF

Clannad is not animated in HD.

99 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-10-31 16:02 ID:Heaven

>>96

He was doing Lucky Star and Zetsubou-sensei in parallel, why would it be different with Clannad?

PS: >>97 is an idiot.

101 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-11-01 03:56 ID:T8jz4vpg

>>98
Well maybe not standard HD, but 1024x576, which is somewhere between 720p and 1080p.

102 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-11-01 05:28 ID:qtspfMVF

>>101

Clannad is not animated at 1024x576.
It is broadcast at 480 upscaled to 720. The composite-cable dot crawl in the credit overlays makes this quite obvious.

103 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-11-01 11:03 ID:LKgPYBQl

>>102
Okay. I have to wonder then, why fansubbers would then scale up yet again to 1024.

104 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-11-02 11:57 ID:jIVySTmX

>>99

Also, there's only 3 episodes left of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei so I'm sure AFK will finish those and work on Clannad full-time.

105 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-11-02 22:58 ID:GulvuH3K

Okay after looking at the 1024x576 version for a while, there is no way that's 480, the thinnest line visible is much thinner and sharper than 480 would have allowed for. And if the widescreen version were really 480, can you imagine how low res the 4:3 version would be horizontally?

106 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-11-03 03:25 ID:Tpl5nfCh

>>105

There are sharpen filters and much better scaling algorithms available than you'd think.

> And if the widescreen version were really 480, can you imagine how low res the 4:3 version would be horizontally?

75%?

107 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2007-11-03 11:04 ID:GulvuH3K

On top of that, aren't anime "animated" as vector graphics and converted to the destination resolution at render-time? Kyoto Animation were claiming that everything was "re-rendered" for the Haruhi DVDs, which made me think that.

114 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-10-30 01:56 ID:7Fmm5OtN

I'd have to say Lunar. Because it's important to actually finish a series rather than just going on to another one, a concept that they do not seem to grasp.
