Also, see this thread since this board is so slow anyway, that a new alive thread doesn't hurt at all.

I've seen Kamichu ep 1, and it was really really good. It gets 1000 points for the beginning, which is really nice non-boring storytelling, and also really adorable. It also gets 75 points for every little spirit walking around.

Further plus points for the chaos theory-esque typhoon start.

Oh man, this series is just great. It's Windy Tales without the insanely long episodes and with a more mainstream (and high budget) style.

Exactly. People insist on having separate anime lumped under one topic where the topic isn't about teh anime anyway, to prevent 'spam' (what spam? In this slow place?) and then wonder why they're slow. Sheesh. If this gets permasaged I'm outta here...

And I'm about to watch ep 2 of Kamichu!, it's really ultra moe and the character designs make me want to stab some of them, but it's SO DAMN WELL DONE that I don't mind. It's a fairly normal concept that's injected with lots of life with the great animation, great sound effects (Hiromi Kikuda for life!) and great storyboarding and so on.

what

I merely pointed out previous mentioning of the show on this board so people would easier get an idea on what this is about. Quit your unsubstantiated bitchin'!

Softsubs are still a pain in the ass though, MVB! At least this one is SSA and not the horrible, horrible SRT.

>Softsubs

Isn't there some kind of ethical codex which states that fansubbers are to "burn in" the text? Or was it just the handiest way to do it for a long time?

12 Name: Sling!XD/uSlingU 2005-07-11 14:15 ID:rPQggImE

Softsubs were first.
Then some people would complain that they don't like softsubs.
Then some groups would take the softsubs and rerelease it as hardsubs under their own name without crediting the first group.
First group would be pissed and never to do softsubs again.

Personally I preferred softsubs because I could correct the spellings and translation errors myself. Plus I didn't have to dl the same episode twice if I had the raw already. But then groups became better and did less spelling/translation errors. I still have to dl the episode twice, tho.

Oh and I hate .ssa. I convert all my .ssa to .srt.

Hay it would be cool if someone seeded the first episode, too ò.o

There are 148 seeds for episode 1 right now.

I haven't seen the player that can't handle them (ignoring DivX for Quicktime, but everyone ALREADY ignores DivX for QuickTime, so that's fine), and someone's already asked to translate episode 1 into Polish!

Oh, yeah, and here are the 720p HDTV versions.

It is unfortunate that Chikushou forgot to set the subtitle tracks to display by default, but that is only a right click or visit of a VLC menu away from being fixed.

I think you shouldn't assume the presence of menus and mouse control that hastily. ; )

Then it's an -sid 0 away if you're using MPlayer, in which case you're used to entering lots of options anyway.

#yukata on irc.rizon.net is doing the sub for the eps right now ... if someone wonders where to get fansubbed anime ... GOOD ones.

Kind of relevant linkage to iitran being confused about whether they are working on this and if so, whether they are doing it together with RH:

Kamichu! has got to be one of the most underrated series of the decade. It's got a lot of great qualities, and thoroughly likeable.
