Love Hina + sports = This anime.

I'll admit that Yamato has a little more backbone than your standard milquetoast male lead, and some more wit to him as well. Still, though, nothing uber-great. Worth the watch, but I won't be jumping for joy if/when it gets licensed.

Discuss.

2 Name: Mid!Nry2s/j0uk 2005-07-12 20:46 ID:pbfMj5cb

Not too bad a first episode, and it definatly had its moments. I will have to watch a few more episodes of it before passing judgement apon it, but it interests me a bit.

I dont particularly like sports anime either, but I think I will watch for now.

Stop!!!

Ep 6 kills any harem/idiot main char.

This anime is the next Kimi ga nozumi eien

4 Name: MJP 2005-08-14 23:30 ID:Heaven

Impossible. The male lead has a personality.

However, if it even alludes to Kiminozo, I'm all for w00ting it.

5 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-08-15 19:50 ID:jyHo1AEb

Does this involve any Motorcycle or Auto racing?

6 Name: TiS 2005-08-16 14:04 ID:VHmWm+Om

Not now :) Might in future, I doubt though.

I had resemblances (hope it is correct word) from Aishiteruze Baby. Not the story of course, but, how to call it, some general feeling.

It's been long time I've seen quite intelligent love-story.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who enjoys this fine anime. The thing I hate the most is the previews for the next episode. They're too spoilerific. (´ー`)

8 Name: MJP 2005-08-17 03:35 ID:Heaven

I wanna party with you, pal. You totally called it. Episode 6 had my heart beating just like it did when I was watching Kiminozo. Lunar's doing a stellar job, too. No pun intended.

I find your statement compelling and wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

Er, which newsletter? The subs themselves have the previews at the end. (・∀・)

"Your ideas are intriguing to me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter" is a commonly used quote from The Simpsons.

11 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-08-23 08:30 ID:Heaven

Really? Which episode?

12 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-08-23 22:47 ID:Heaven

4F10, "Mountain of Madness"

13 Name: MJP 2005-08-28 18:12 ID:Heaven

So how about them episode 6's?

So this is where it turns into a pure sports anime, then?

I'm torrenting episode 8 as we speak... can't wait for it.

14 Name: Sakurina!hb3hogbZLc 2005-08-28 21:00 ID:Heaven

I think you mean episode 7 is the beginning of a sports anime (the ending), but I can't wait to see Episode 8. I'm downloading it from #lunaranime right now.

15 Name: MJP 2005-08-30 02:45 ID:Heaven

SPOILER WARNING

TURN BACK NOW IF YOU REALLY ARE UPTIGHT ABOUT SEMI-SPOILERS

I think the montage in episode 8 was one of the better montages I've seen yet. It didn't go too over the top. Can anyone hook me up with a ZOMG TORRENT PLS for the manga, or am I better off waiting for the anime to finish? This is one title I don't want to see the end for straightaway... probably because I have no clue how it ends up. I give Suzuka the "Least predictable title" award for '05.

16 Name: Realist 2005-08-30 07:10 ID:pp0Vi8pp

Hang in there, the story keeps getting better and better. I've not seen anything like it that can hook so many people into downloading it. Even non romance anime viewers seems to like Suzuka a lot. And since it's quite faithful to the manga, you won't lose much by following the anime. Two thumbs up for Suzuka anime.

17 Name: d3vl0u5 2005-09-09 02:14 ID:so5ouCZG

i've watched love hina a long time before suzuka, and wen i came across this anime i'v realised there are alot of similarities, such as a male comin into a female dorm, and the story is the same too with the exception of the sporting part. at first i thought this anime wasn't too bad so i'll keep onto it i'm now i'm to episode 8 and i have to tell you its completely changing from love hina its worth a watch i'd lyk to know if there are any manga links to this anime any1 can post up ? it'd be much appreciated [ J a g W a s H e r e ]

What you say is very true. My girlfriend hates "sappy love-love anime" and she despises the harem genre, but I introduced her to Suzuka, and she loves it. She's rooting for Honoka because that was basically her in high school. I for one agree with her, at least as far as Yamato being a tactless, dense, clueless jerkface to her.

>>17
The manga is out there somewhere, but I don't know where. I am requesting a torrent of the above stated material, ZOMG PLS!!!1!

this anime is quite possibly the greatest love story out there, though I admit its is kind of hard to make something like this last so long, I think this is probably going to be the best one yet, well just have to wait and see

21 Name: mG-kun 2005-09-24 22:32 ID:dYnlnvFt

its realy the best love story in the moment and i must say i love it =) lunar should work faster so i cann see the next episode xD

YuP.. I agree. Im falling in love with this anime.. Better than Love Hina

23 Name: nanikore 2005-09-27 03:06 ID:QRDlZ+4J

"Lunar should work faster"?

That is kind of a strange thing to say, since I just saw the latest episode they subbed and the next one isn't even on air in Japan yet!

If that isn't "fast," I don't know what is.

24 Name: MJP@work!wMPjIqu/2M 2005-09-30 15:31 ID:w//SGqBP

>>21

Lunar's work is worth waiting for. Theirs is some of the best quality fansubbing out there.

WARNING: POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT

Just saw episode 12 and the preview for 13. Oh man. It's high time that the "rival character" in a romance/harem anime had a real serious shot at the male lead. Go go Honoka!

(Has anyone else noticed how her hair gets longer when she puts it in ponytails for practice?)

25 Name: !WAHa.06x36 2005-10-01 01:27 ID:Heaven

Now, granted, there's far worse out there, but "the best quality fansubbing"? That seems excessively high praise.

i think i've never seen anything this stupid and trite

just so that this isn't a onesided 'discussion'

otherwise i wouldn't really touch this with a 10ft. pole

29 Name: MJP!6BUz54j/mA 2005-10-04 21:18 ID:w//SGqBP

>>28

NO U

Seriously. Why do you find it stupid and trite? The only way to make a one-sided discussion two-sided is to have a side, not just spout unsubstantiated complaints.

>>25

"some of the." Amongst fansubbing, there is horrific crap out there, errors in translation, bad encodes, lousy sub jobs, etc. Lunar does a very good job compared to a lot of the other operations. There are better, there are worse, but I would set them as a very strong subbing group.

30 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-10-04 21:40 ID:Heaven

>>29
well, i didn't really watch enough of it to legitamately take a side

BUT, the first episode was so typical and predictable i felt like crying. Everything about it, the pacing, the order in which characters are introduced etc. outlines how the creators decided this was going to be one hella typical series. And watching the last scene made me die a little inside.

so there

31 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-10-05 10:20 ID:7E3kkGpW

>>30

Too bad, you're missing out one of the best sleeper hits of this year. Suzuka is not for those that are easily fooled by the first ep. For those that want to enjoy it, it will require patience and intelligence, which obviously you don't have either.

32 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-10-05 11:04 ID:Heaven

Stop flaming.

33 Name: MJP!6BUz54j/mA 2005-10-05 20:52 ID:w//SGqBP

>>32

I don't think he's flaming now that he's at least established his position.

>>30

I have to agree with >>31, because I had to make a similar leap of faith when I first watched episode 1. Refer to >>1 for how I felt.

I can't argue that the first episode is somewhat typical and predictable. In my opinion, it was, so I agree with >>30. But it's only the first episode. The first episode of a lot of anime doesn't feel like the middle or ending episodes. I would urge >>30 to give it one more shot to give it a chance. It's free, after all. ^_^

34 Name: Blamo 2005-10-06 05:39 ID:8RjKHniK

I admit, when I saw the first ep I was like "Here we go again" but for some reason, I watched the second... and it was WAY better... warning to those that want the manga, I heard it's a lot worse than the anime... in terms of ecchi/harem cliche content... but I've never read it so I couldn't really tell you.

35 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-10-06 14:00 ID:BAEqvLic

The manga first volume has plenty of fanservice, but by the second volume all that crap is very much reduced or not even seen anymore in favour of superior storytelling. The manga is superior to the anime in art, mangaka's artwork is very beautiful and consistent.

36 Name: wan-wan-wan 2005-10-08 17:10 ID:AzKMbjfE

another harem anime with little flavor..

If you're looking for a great "love" story this isn't the place to find it, really. (I'm assuming for those who said it was that they're a) 14 and b) guys) Unfortunately the characters seem unoriginal and underdeveloped. Which is too bad - because they have some potential. I think overall it needed more effort in both story and production.

37 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-10-08 20:18 ID:Gfifvd6v

>>36

It's not a harem anime, why can't you oblivious people understand that? It's a love triangle. Doesn't matter, it's a waste of time trying to talk to those that think it's this or that when it's not.

38 Name: KrashOmnis 2005-10-13 03:46 ID:xSY8KtgN

I hate love triangles, but I find myself oddly drawn to Suzuka because I so desperatly want things to work out for everyone. I cant really decide whether I like Honoka or Suzuka more.

Either way, I'm rooting for Yamato to stop being so blind from now on! I kept going "AW COME ON MAN!".

39 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-10-13 11:22 ID:Heaven

> Either way, I'm rooting for Yamato to stop being so blind from now on! I kept going "AW COME ON MAN!".

Wow, that sure sounds original and exciting.

40 Name: andre 2005-10-14 16:39 ID:CC+fb0o/

hi guys. where can i find the piano soundtracks of suzuka.. they´r great!

41 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2005-12-05 10:43 ID:PR6VMwzD

Soundtracks are quite good indeed, although I'm afraid they are too phony in stand alone mode.

Suzuka is the greatest among it's genre because it takes enough time to discuss relationships. You might perhaps learn a little out of it, or at least get you thinking, while for example Love Hina goes for the cheap humor a lot more. In fact, the lack of humor in Suzuka is refreshing, finally an anime not intended for little teens.

I like Suzuka becouse it feels more of like a high school life instead of the general harem series

Suzuka != harem...you sir are an idiot

46 Name: KoKo 2006-01-08 20:03 ID:gKv6WTJn

Anyone perhaps know how many episodes will be airing in total?..I read somewhere that its based for a 26 episode series, I just finished watching 25, hope it doesn't end next episode.
Also anyone know the airtime in Japan?..every mondays?

47 Name: Paltir 2006-01-09 07:29 ID:jQSGYssW

I just saw the 26th episode.

I'm giving up hope for anymore, frome the ending, kinda a full circle monologue type of thing. They kinda killed me by not resolving the track issue, as I was more interested in that than the actual relationship between Yamoto and Suzuka(total bitch, I'd pick miki, who is fucking sex!).

48 Name: MJP!UyIEvIA9Mg 2006-01-10 02:38 ID:Heaven

Agreed. Hopefully the manga ending isn't a giant festival of suck and unfathomable.

50 Name: Random Anime Otaku 2006-01-18 05:20 ID:0+M+S8Bs

Hey, nothing wrong with harem series.

51 Name: eli 2006-02-10 16:19 ID:Heaven

dis is a heartbreaking show dat i like to watch...i have watched all 26 episodes and still hope for more.. dis is one of da best love anime so far created.

i wonder y they stop making episodes....

52 Name: benson_2009 2006-02-27 06:41 ID:wFThBlhR

apparently they stoped at episode 26 becasue of the budget... thats what i heard. The manga goes further after episode 26

53 Name: tooli : 2006-03-01 21:42 ID:aTyDhMpl

I watched the full 26 episodes and... andthen what? Just nothing... No originality at all, things I've seen 1000* times, that's all. Predictable from beginning to the end.
The animation is just bad, there are drawing error (perspective error, or character's faces changing from scene to scene) everywhere (it seems you guys put more attention to the story than to the way it is drawed, so it's just my opinion), and drawing error are VERY irritating.
And what does it say about relationship? Well guys it's not like this story is believable! Sorry but unlike you I just couldn't get involved into it, or identify to any of the character there. Maybe that's the reason I disliked this so don't take my comments too bad. When you see what the japanese are capable of, this a way too low anime to spend your time watching it.

54 Name: tooli : 2006-03-01 22:04 ID:aTyDhMpl

Well I give it 6/10 as mark.
Maybe I seem to despise it very much but it's not the case, because I didn't said any good points (and there are some I agree), I just think of it as average.
I just think there are so much anime and so much are so beautifull, and so much are so average you don't have time to spend on watching them or you will miss something!

57 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2006-08-15 17:11 ID:uVgfqiAH

I have all eps and I should watch the remainder at some point (I left of where they miss the train and have to stay at the guys house)

Anyway, despite the drawing errors, and even in despite of the horrible running thing, I thought the characters were quite realistic or at least with a lot more horizon than most anime I've seen.

58 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2006-08-16 20:24 ID:Z0SRc6Io

>>57

Stop watching after the next episode and you'll have a satisfying ending.

Otherwise, read the manga.

59 Name: Darth Anonymous : 2006-08-17 22:12 ID:m440YC0H

anime sucked ass. Characters were shallow and Suzuka is such a bitch, no, make that an UBER BITCH AND SHE SHOULD FUCKING DIE.

I feel sorry for Konoka though.

anime was made of fail and shit.

60 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-05-30 23:42 ID:MJ2Lk6EE

i liked the anime despite the quality. i thought the story was nice, and then i read the manga. the anime totally sucked after i read the original work, the anime actually stopped at (an estimated) 1/4 or 1/3 of the manga. it was a really nice story at the end too, just with a generic start but that goes away pretty quick

61 Name: Skoth : 2009-08-07 07:52 ID:JExUWuT5

>>53

No originality? It's a love story with a happy ending. What are you expecting, them to go to the Moon?

If anything, Suzuka should be praised for its handling of the rejected characters. Other similar animes (Love Hina, Ai Yori Aoshi) tend to ignore how characters such as Honoka deal with not being chosen by the lead, but Suzuka does a fine job of wrapping up all of the loose ends in that department.

62 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2009-08-10 10:23 ID:fR/mthB/

Not that the anime works better but the manga had the worst ending

63 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2009-08-20 01:16 ID:EseCHW56

never really watched it, only an episode... and boy I couldn't get into it. just a generic romance...

64 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2009-08-20 10:38 ID:fR/mthB/

It must have been that bad once you give up past the first episode when the series based on a manga that was far from done around the time you watched that. Too bad the anime caught up with the source which means you were smart enough to give up on an anime that made the manga end worse than its abrupt anime.

65 Name: Someguy : 2009-11-05 17:32 ID:NVfVhGwX

Mmm...I'd have to say the thing I appreciated the most about this anime was that it was normal...too many animes like this rely on magic girlfriends, or other non-realistic items to spruce their story up...I thought that the mix of comedy and romance was very appropriate...too many animes aim for a romantic and then end up like a family guy with one stupid random thing after another.
