Some would say it lacks action compared to SEED - this is not a bad thing by itself, as the time spent not fighting is used for character development.
Now if only there wasn't that many characters to develop! The scope of the story just spread out too much, diluting itself, having potentially meaningful characters get no screen time and some very interesting others just killed off (/me won't forgive the scriptwriters for what they did to Heine Westenfluss, who happened to have both a spine AND a brain, things which are rarely present in a character in GSD)...
There were interesting moments nonetheless, but they for sure were spoilt by the overall mildness of the show. Blah.
Back on topic, Kira owns anything under the sun. He was made to be so whereas Shinn is a 'mere' gifted coordinator, in the same way Athrun is, minus self-control. Shinn just throws away his pain by inflicting it on others...
He might welcome worth something once he calms down and realizes what war and killing people means. As of episode 49, he's slowly realizing the most important lesson Gundam in general has to teach. It's about time he stops acting like an angry, angsty, frustrated brat with a weapon of mass destruction entrusted to his hands (which is a state of mind Dullindal fully took advantage of).
It just took waaaay too long for characters in that series to finally act how they ought to have been behaving from early on...

That's WHY Shin is better than Kira, and so is Athrun. They both had to work hard to get to where they are skill-wise. Kira just got everything handed to him on a silver platter, because the lead writer loves him.
Shinn is too emotional to be a better pilot than Kira. Not to mention Shinn is an idiot who can't think for himself. You could tell Shinn to kill all women and children for the sake of humanity and he would look at his sister's cell phone, scream like a girl and then he would do it.

you all know that the freedom vs impulse battle was pure garbage? why because it was forced man, in the respect that kira was godlike in skill and was owned just like that when in respect he should of won
but regardless Shinn the best character ever never had a chance in the char development area that much so people hate him

Dullindal/Rey and Shinn all fought for something tangible,they wanted to end all wars but knew that people would always fight unless the Destiny Plan was implemented...Kira/Athrun and Lacus,on the other hand,just messed around,not helping anyone and indirectly killing people like Stellar and Westenfluss.Also,what's w/ Kira's no kill policy?Not just did he kill Gilbert but also all those who were aboard the Messiah(the operators and such)..making him a bloody mass murderers,more so than Athrun or Mwu.

wouldnt the show just suck if all suddenl shinn own kira? i mean we all saw what happend in SEED kira completely killed it. though this anime isn't about Shinn being better than Kira. The writers would have some serious explaining to do if all of a sudden Shinn were to own Kira. Kira would always be #1 shinn would be like #3 because Athrun is also good as Kira.
