Bah, I've been wanting to do that since around ep 4. I expect there's some subtle bonus details that rely on continuity.

This thread will now slowly segue into waiting for a second season. Post any rumours you hear in here!

I just decided to check out what kind of attention Haruhi is getting on 2channel.

The Haruhi thread was at part 506.

Yep the show should be considered as a commercial film for the original novels. You can't fully understand the story without reading them. Especially "Someday in the Rain" episode.

And yet, the show was perfectly awesome by itself.

There's something about the interview video that I didn't notice at first but surprised me when I did.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=z1Vc7bjCojo
If you skip to the part where she comes out, there's a shot of the audience. It's almost entirely female! When a guest on these shows has a big otaku following like Morning Musume, the audience is primarily male.

Hi I'm from Akihabara now.
Haruhi's seiyuu team is going to record a radio program in front of a live audience today, and massive amount of otaku are rushing to the recording site. The head-count is approximately 1400 for now and still increasing.. No surprises Akihabara is in a panic with satanically long procession. What a crazy scenery... I wish I have a camera lol.

Having watched the a.f.k. fansub of the whole 14-part series, I'm a little conflicted as to whether I'd like to see another season. Certainly anything of this quality would deserve a continuation, yet I imagine I'd be quite content closing the book and putting it back to its place on the shelf. After all, with indefinitely many seasons after the first it only turns into a waiting game to see how long it takes for yet another furiously good thing to turn into suck.

Them metaphysical themes though? Win!

It already has been continued - remember, it's based on a book series, and the anime only covers the first two out of... five? Six? Something like that.

To hell with that, it's a dancing anime.

146 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2006-08-25 14:31 ID:Heaven

>>143
Sure. That doesn't guarantee nonsuckitude of future seasons though, if there are going to be any -- we all surely know how many ways there are to fuck up a good thing. This is not to say that I wouldn't totally geek out on the second season were it produced and fansubbed as well as the first.

Really, my point was that the first season was plenty complete by itself, regardless of where the manga (which I've completely ignored) goes. It had a beginning, an end and a bunch of non-arc episodes. Maybe I'm just conflicted here given the expectations that the first season would put on a second.

147 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2006-08-25 15:03 ID:elGtosmU

>>146

Not a manga, a light novel series. And remember, the climax of the first anime season happens right in the middle, chronologically - the pacing of the books work out that way.

Why did Nagato shoved Mikuru's head on the ground in their indie film? Threatened by the Mikuru Beam?

153 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2006-09-17 10:55 ID:ct+VGUbb

>>152 Yeah. Nagato put her down and removed the threat (some high-tech contact lens? Mikuru was crying from one eye elsewhere).

This is what I gathered from posts from people who claimed to have read the novels.

an ecchi harem comedy with a complicated (and sort of irrelevant, from the way it ended up) sci-fi premise. it spends far more time with the moemoe stuff than the sci-fi stuff, though, so i would say that's the dominant genre.

155 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2006-09-23 07:11 ID:EyJXaZBz

People idolize over Haruhi Suzymiya because she acts like a guy. You ever wish you could have a girl as a friend, just to hang out with like one of the guys? A girl that would have the same interests as you, the same enthusiasm, the same keen observations and sense of adventure? How about a girlfriend that you could just hang out with, have fun with, and not have to listen to her whine and complain and leak. Haruhi Suzymiya is that ideal "hang out with" girl. She has fans because she has all the best traits of a guy friend you can hang out with, only she happens to be a girl. Understand that when people idolize over Haruhi Suzymiya, they idolize over the personality of a cool guy friend in a girl's body- an ideal friend/partner who has the best of both worlds, and would be nearly impossible to find.

Ok guys, i don't want to be mean/troll/etc.. but i started watching this show because i read it was awesome, large threads dedicated to it, etc.. and i thought to myself that i musn't miss this show..

The point is that so far i haven't watched the series completely (episode 11 so far), and while it's enjoyable i don't find it that it's super awesome/masterpiece/etc like some people said it was, ok the series is very good animated all around, has good effects, and has had really good episodes, but the MASTERPIECE i was hoping to watch isn't there. I'm kinda dissapointed :(... or do i need to watch it completely, or am i being too elitist?

Man, it's been a year now, why hasn't the hare hare yukai fad washed over yet?

Shouldn't you guys be practicing your 汗(Fuu)々(Fuu)の谷間にDarlin' darlin' FREEZE! by now?

Ahhh... Well.

SOS Concert was a disaster. Singing was awesome, but whoever wrote the script for the bits in between the singing didn't do a very good job. Read pretty much any Anime Expo forum topic on the SOS Brigade concert. Concert also started about 2:30 hours late (I was there 1 hour early, 3:30 hours in the sun o_o). They were still filing people in when it started. Techinical difficulties ran rampant.

...The worst thing though?

The timing between what the singer hears and is singing to, and what the audience hears wasn't exact. It was especially obvious when Aya Hirano sings, because she's got such a strong voice. Everyone was singing just a bit slower than what we were hearing, and it drove me nuts.
And everyone in the balcony section (well, my section at least) was a total party pooper, and they just kinda stared at me while I did the Hare Hare Yukai dance. Come on, the freaking translator invited us all to stand and dance >_<

...The autograph session for the SOS. HOO BOY. I waited 7+ hours for nothing. First, AX canceled the session the first day, at about 10:30 AM. 3 hours wasted. Then, AX announced 15 MINUTES AFTER the signing was supposed to start that the SOS Brigade would only be signing posters, and then only 100 of them. Needless to say, I wasn't in the 100. Another 4 hours wasted.

This video was taken at the line... I'm kinda down in the corner by the person with the red shirt on.

Yeah. If you read pretty much any AX forum topic (especially comments and suggestions) you'll know AX kinda sucked compared to last year.

Wait a minute.. Are you sure they're not just gonna announce the date of Season 2 tomorrow/(time difference)today? You'd think they wouldn't start airing the sequel to an immensely popular show like that without at least deploying a trailer. I can hardly find any publicity about it at all on google.
