you know your a otaku when you ask your girlfriend to roleplay as a anime character in bed.
Oh my, aren't you quite the sexual deviant.
Kindly remove yourself from the internet, I for one refuse to enable you in your twisted fetish.
If I could find a girl to play Nagato Yuki I think I would be the happiest man alive.
No, that's when you know you have failed as a human being.

Quiet, unobtrusive bookworm who's ready to haxxor your latest eroge and when you leave for school she's ready to lay down her life to beat off the bullies?
Hmm, not a bad wish.
I am here, there for I know.
when you post in a topic called 'you know your an otaku when...'
When you instantly recognize this and think it's hilarious:
Gendou: "Why did you join my beloved NERV?"
Shinji: "Sir, to kill Angels, Sir! And maybe to impress the chick with the big boobies who sent me this picture, Sir!"
Gendou: "So you're a killer?"
Shinji: "Sir yes sir!"
Gendou: "Let me see your war face!"
Shinji: "Sir?"
Gendou: "You got a war face? AAAAAARRRRRR! That's a war face! Now let me see your war face!"
Shinji: eenf eenf
Gendou: "BULLSHIT! You didn't CONVINCE me! Let me see your real war face!"
Shinji: "YAAAAAAAARRRRRHHHHHHH!!!!!!"
Gendou: "You don't scare me. Work on it."
I didn't think it was that funny. I guess that means I'm safe.
But then again I think Lucky Star is funny. So...
you watch too much anime when you force your 5 year old kid to watch naruto with you
...in Japanese
...when you say random Japanese words and begin typing like this: Kawaii desu ne!!!!! ^__^
>>12
You forgot the "Sugoi!" before "Kawaii". You sir are not an Otaku!
I say "yare, yare" all the time and "hora!!"
I seriously do. Like, around my family.

I had my first dream in all japanese 3 nights ago. It was really long, used japanese I thought I had forgotten, and I understood most of it. Weird, because I remembered one of the sentances I heard but didn't understand, and looked it up aferwards and it made sense.
I guess you are an otaku when you start dreaming in japanese
XD
You know when you are an otaku when anytime someone is talking you expect there to be subs
You know you're an otaku when you appreciate Konata's version of Cha-La-Head-Cha-La and Uchuu Tetsujin Kyoudain.

Bonus points if you can sing Motteke! Sailor Fuku too.
You know you're an otaku when you name your cat Dokuro-chan. (-_____-);;
I named my cat Tama.
When you watch Densha Otoko and cry
When you watch Kanon and cry.
When you watch a dub and cry blood. From your ears.
I know I've got the otaku potential because it influenced me so much during these past two years. Seriously - some of anime out there... it makes you think and reach into yourself. Ok, I got a lot of anime burned on DVDs and I spent a lot of time watching it all - so that makes me otaku, sort of.
I think you can begin to worry when you can name 12 Japanese animation studios off the top of your head without consulting a source. If you can't name 12, then you're just a novice.
Maybe this number is too low. For a true otaku, you should probably be able to name 18 to 20.
>>25
Well, there I go. I really like the first link, because Konata is cool and her singing is hilarious.
>>25
I fucking bought the CD, so I guess I'm screwed. (-_-)
you know your an otaku when it took you five minutes to think of what to post on this thread
Nearly no-one who claims to be an otaku outside Asia can name even 5.
XD so true!
am not otaku, i can name 22 japanese animation
Pfew then, I'm safe! :) I only know Ghibli and Madhouse and the manga group Clamp.
CLAMP doesn't count.
garage kit count go: 56 :|

You have a little fun yourself with the masturbation scene in the NGE movie.
Oh Asuka. Oh baby...
you know your a otaku when you don't have a girlfriend to roleplay as a anime character in bed.

...urmmm... drawing a blank.
Well, that's 11, so I guess I'm safe.
Oh, shit, Sunrise. Well, so much for that.
when you noticed a box of pocky in your local grocery store
if you buy it, your a weeaboo
I saw this guy in mid 20s eating pocky in the subway, believe me people, it looks ridicules
I guess it looks like eating any kind of candy in the subway, doesn't it.
What is with you guys and Pocky?
ハイチュウ is where it's at.
when you start dreaming about anime. i actually dreamt about ouran high school host club.
Ouran High Rocks!!!!!!
Fuck Pocky. Umaibou is the lord of you all.
when you start obsessed with collecting action figures, and masturbate after looking at it.
When you have Hatsune Miku on your iPod.
when your mom knows more about anime than most of your friends from you talking about it so much
Oh yeah, umaibou. They say you're an otaku when you can eat an umaibou in one second. Or if your diet consists mostly of canned udon.
when you type in his thread with no specific name...it says that you are a random anime otaku no?
when you're fantasizing anime's little girl in situation they shouldn't be...
when you get off to sailor moon
i dont know
well when you gather your friends around a new anime-figure you just bought to admire it
or maby when you write fanfiction
When those friends are the figures already in your collection.
when you start using anime references for login id and passwords
like my name right now?
Or maybe this name?
During nearly a year of NEEtdom now, I've been able to observe myself gradually becoming an Otaku bit by bit, one series and day-on-the-web at a time.
I guess it's interesting to consider, since I wasn't much interested in anime, jpop, seiyuu, manga, or visual novels a year ago. And then suddenly BAM, something budged, I think it all started when I watched a few episodes of Chobits on Youtube, before I knew it my suppressed interest in Japan and Japanese re-emerged and I found myself watching the series over the weekend.
I was linked to NHK ni Youkoso from my Wikipedia research on Hikikomori, and there goes another series, then I rewatched EVA from the beginning (I had only seen a few episodes back in middle school), then I watched other Gainax stuff, then a couple moe slice of life classics, all the Ghibli films I missed, Madhouse, and then a Kyoani/Sunrise binge. Then I started watching new series and bought the Lucky Star karaoke ED CD.
Now I've become a Type-Moon fag.
Before you know it you've got Japense IME installed and floating on your taskbar and spending hours at a time on multiple -chans.
So I guess if I'm not careful I'll soon pass that point of no return.
Perhaps someone could save me. But since that person would have to be a beautiful girl in armor with an ahoge, I think I'm hopeless.
when you hope that you have reached that "level" where you can call yourself otaku
you make "you know you are X when..." threads on the internet
maby he/she wants to know if he/she is an otaku and by wich criteria that would be.
Shortly you can say that you are otaku when you are realy obssesed by something.
you mistake this board for gaia
When your first name IS Otaku...
。・゚・(ノД`)・゚・。
Could someones name be otaku? I wonder what language that would be in...certainly not japanese.
>>73
I think you've long passed point of no return when you start worrying about it. :-D
If somebody in high school would tell me that in 15 years time my watching habbits would be 99+% fullfilled by hand-drawn schoolchildren I think I'd kill him/her instantly. And yet - here we are.
It would be possible in Japanese, assuming really cruel parents, and also that the word isn't on the list of prohibited names.

A few tears when.
does it count if you quit your part time job for an anime convention? hehe..
>>83
My younger brother skipped his high school graduation ceremony to go to Project A-kon.
Yes. A life as an otaku! ke ke ke ke
I like how most people in this thread are not actually otakus but only weeaboos
god damn weeaboos you dont have to be
Umaibou IS the best and anybody who thinks it sucks shall witness the death of their dakimakura... muhahahahah
When you dedicate a entire paycheck towards going to a anime convention.
>>90
when you dedicate your school loans and go without anything but the essentials for anime conventions.
when you dedicate your soul to do anything anime-related
When you choose a convention over a date with a girl who you know will put out.
When you liv your life on the bottom of your bunkbed cosplaying L from death note trying to solve crimes with your laptop and you come out only to go to conventions and the occasional trip to the ONLY STORE on the other side of town that sells manga....
*what I do....
>>90
i have done that on several occasions and i room with 3 girls that cosplay at that ^_^ though i am practically their servent when im in the room T_T hey it saves me $80 for a room and its a room AT the convention
a wise man once said
Age = number of years without a girlfriend
Oh, that was me.
age=number of years without girlfriend?
oh no its like me
You get mad at people for labeling themselves 'otaku' in real life.
Because you know real otaku's don't say shit.
yeah g
When you can perform the hare hare yukai dance and the lucky star opening dance? And cosplay when you do so?
To be honest, labelling yourself an otaku seems odd to me. It seems like something that another person would label you, not something you would label yourself.
Though.. I think I posted somewhere that I could be considered an otaku. Maybe I'm a hypocrite. ¬_¬
you know your a otaku when you create a thread titled "you know your a otaku when ..."
when you post on this thread because non-otakus don't give a shit! perhaps i am one since i gave a shit posting one.
i think some of the posters here are trying to be like an otaku? well for me i think being an otaku can't only be in anime there could be in other things? i think...

when you subconsiously use anime references at the worst moments. then my friend...you are an otaku<(-_-)>
You know when you're an otaku when you've watched so much anime all you're dreams are in anime format and you are an anime person in them. (it's true for me; a little sad probably that i'm this obsessed, but hey, you don't think in dreams. It's living the moment. I think its fun.^_^
~sigh. it really is sad but I use japanese words sub-consciously without noticing untill my friends are like "wtf does urusei mean?"-_- I'm one of the rare breed of otaku.the female!!!!!but I am a genuine item Mra ha ha ha ha. I have a few series' on dvd and over 300 manga volumes. you know how fricken hard it is to make fricken 3000$ when you're 14 and don't get allowance!!!!cries it was so hard. also, I constantly draw anime and I'm pretty damn good. Anyways, I also sub-consciously make the "omp" sound when I eat stuff. And I grab people by the back of their shirt or corner of their sleeve when I want their attention. not to mention instead of saying what?, I often say "de?!"(all of these otaku symptoms were only noticed by me after they were pointed out by friends)
Haha, you're a robot.
That's kinda hot.
Given, of course, that you obey Ritsuka's commands still.
Spread your legs.
haha! I refuse. I plan to stay a cute technical virgin until i'm twenty. Until then, I'll make do with girls ^_- I do love loveless thoXD!
>>109 draw anime? Got any links to the videos?
u play with your own hand
>>112
I mean like not actually anime but in that style. like manga books.
>>114
well that kinda manga style, most of anime are based on manga.
When you notice AND understand every single reference to anime, manga, games etc in Lucky star.
Lucky Star was relatively easy.
>>117
I found it quite easy too. A few references I didn't understand, such as the hair commercial one.. but it was okay.
I mentioned it because I was speaking to friends who also watched Lucky star and they missed all but the most obvious references..so I figured I might as well add it on here.
You know your a otaku when you intellectualize about things publicly while brazenly misspelling "you're" and forgetting to place an "n" after the "a".
yay! people noticed me^-^ teh heh
You see something in real life and imgaine how it would look like as if it was anime.
You dream in anime.
...
>When you notice AND understand every single reference to anime, manga, games etc in Otaku no Video
Fixed for accuracy
you know youre an otaku when you want to make a lot of happy memories with your friends !
but you don't cause you're watching an anime or a live
You know you are an otaku when you forego improving shitty grammar
You know u are an otaku when u start feeling ur first love on age 5 years old to a cute gal when there is someone watching Macross: あい おぼえて いますか and accidently hears Lynn Minmay songs there, until u realize u can't take off her in ur head until u aged 23!
Another Macross thing: You're watching Frontier and you prefer Ranka to Sheryl, especially after episode 12.
That really may be a sad thing when you want Minmay out all people
>>133
Which quite impossible, ya I knew......
I am 131
when you name your son or daughter after anime names such as naruto.. damn he's gonna hate you for life hahaha
That can't be as bad as someone who named their child Rhett though
You know you're NOT an otaku if you need others to confirm it.
You know you are not an otaku when you spend time with real people
>>140
actually not, my friend did spend his time with people but still love those anime things like crazy...
You know you're an otaku when you post a thread on 4-ch titled "you know your a otaku when "...

You know you are an otaku when all your dates are in a manga aisle
hahah...all those comments about otakus make me laugh here!! (because it's funny!)
what is the definition of Otaku? To know details upon details of anime/manga/characters such and such??
Otaku would be better described watching something like Lucky Star
it's obsession...my dear...OBSESSION! XD
How come we were supposed to know where our obsession needs to go?
You know you're an Otaku when you stay at home on the computer for about half the day and spend the rest of the time sleeping, and during the day you sing along to the karaoke tracks of your favorite JPOP and anime music while beating your score again on the same damn game and spend the whole day trying to find a doujinshi you heard about that was pretty hot and then just go into a mad fit of rage if you can't.
Been there, done that, and still doing it.
You know you are an otaku when you are the only one who read Dayan
you know you are an otaku when you have at least one tatoo of your favorite anime
You know you are an otaku when you save your lunch money for anime
