Funnily enough, it seems most Hentai (in the american form of the word) involves metamorphosis or abnormality of some kind. Tentacles? Demons? Rape? Asexual women? Weird abilities concerning sex? Comical quantities of body fluid involved? Loli-con? The circumstances that lead up to sex encounters? Nothing about any of these can be considered typical in the world of erotica. For god sakes, I just watched one where a lady-ninja got gang-raped by demons. Multiple times. So, "abnormal" is a suitable definition for it. "Hentai" describes it perfectly.
In fairness though, it's porn, so there really isn't a need for semantics.
