Have any of you seen this? I saw it last night and it is by far one of the most stunnin works of animation I've ever seen. Everything about it was serene and so well done.

You won't be disappointed. It's beautiful.

Well I'm watching it now, I'm not terribly far in but I'm enjoying it a whole lot so far. The animation is simply beautiful, period. And the story - well, it almost made me cry already.

Thanks.

Good to hear. If you enjoy this, the director Makoto Shinkai has two other films out.

"The Place Promised In Our Early Days" which is a science fiction/post-WW2 OVA.

He also has out "Voices Of A Distant Star" which is a short 22 minute long OVA he did entirely by himself on his own computer. It's rather odd though since it was made at 15 frames per second and looks as if it's lagging.

Does anybody know of any anime with similar visual styles to this? The characters and backgrounds and everything else are so beautifully drawn and animated.

The obvious would be Makoto Shinkai's other works.

As for 5 Centimeters Per Second, this is my all time favourite, with The Girl Who Leapt Through Time comming in second.

The only thing I didn't like about this movie is the crappy ending, when I saw it I was like "That's it?"

I liked the ending. It reflects on the first scene where they're children and separated by the passing train. Now as he's older and sees somebody who is possibly Akari, he gets cut off by a train as he turns back. However now he realizes that life needs to go on and ignores it, and carries on with his life never to know if the woman was her.

Be careful with the spoilers

Yep, I found the film pretty moving, even more so because I tend to have the same behavior as the main character,... However, things turned differently with my own "Akari", probably because she had a totally different personality than Akari's.

That was nice too but the ending kind of left me wanting more, though if Makoto Shinkai went with a cheesy happy ending then I would have been pretty ticked off but I'm glad he didn't.

thanks to 4-ch I obtained (read: pirated) a copy of this. Gotta say, it's a very nice story. I agree with >>8 that the ending seemed too short... you wanted it to go on.
