Animes that made us shed manly tears (46)

I only have two on my list which is Kanon and Gurren Lagann.

what other anime series made those shriveled up tear ducts work like they have never worked before?

2 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-03-04 01:08 ID:Heaven

Red Garden. But those weren't really very manly tears. Any tears shed for Kanon, even less so.

Gurren-Lagann, though, that's what you cry manly tears for.

Air also.

There was something recently which was really emotional but I can't remember what it was now so it mustn't have left a very bold impression.

Air and Kanon are fake, shallow melodrama, not worth shedding tears over.

(Ending) Cowboy Bebop

(Ending) Gungrave

Naruto, it would have to been the very first music when Naruto master jumped on him and started to cry. :-( Than they decided to play that sadness and sorrow music :-(.

Naruto made me cry girly tears after wasting 5 hours trying to give such a miserable, tragic excuse of an anime a chance and realising just how horrible it was.

Sorry, but quite a number of people would agree. Most of them wouldn't even watch it in the first place, though. Those who do watch it are largely emotionally stunted otaku, who are just the kind of people it is designed to appeal to.

>Most of them wouldn't even watch it in the first place, though.

Agreed,... Someone told me it was similar to Clannad, which made me not want to see it in the first place. Hence I can't comment on it.

I liked Air and Kanon for the supernatural aspects of it, which made it stand out from other boy's romance series, for Kyo-ani's stunning visuals and overall artfulness, and because of a few of the characters.

However, the "emotional"-ness of it didn't really appeal to me either. Truthfully, I originally hated Kanon so much I had only watched the first episode, and fell asleep during that.

I only decided to give it another chance because of the KyoAni remake, and because I watched Air after getting addicted to the rock version of Tori no Uta.

And I am an emotionally stunted otaku.

But yeah, you can't cry manly tears to crap like that. Sorry, but those were girly tears you were crying.

Stuff like Gurren-Lagann, Fate/Stay Night, Angel Heart, Hokuto no ken, the UC Gundam... those are series you can cry manly tears to.

Air... Watching Misuzu drop those cards makes me feel so human...

13 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-03-07 14:04 ID:Heaven

F/S N had no cry potential whatsoever. Not in the anime, anyway.

14 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-03-07 15:35 ID:5oKpqt8g

Planetes :'(

15 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-03-08 00:13 ID:Heaven

>>14

Some parts of Planetes were just a little too over-the-top melodramatic, but on average it did put in a good effort.

How about when Joe died in Gekigangar III.

17 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-03-08 08:12 ID:wFeEm4uW

not when Archer died?

>Air... Watching Misuzu drop those cards makes me feel so human...

I admit that part made me a bit emotional... but not in a manly way

19 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-03-08 13:19 ID:Heaven

I remember watching the whole thing without crying, so even that, yes.

20 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-03-12 23:15 ID:wFeEm4uW

I'm on episode 8 I think of AIR, and I have no idea what's happening...it like went into the past. x.x everything is horribly different now.

You're watching the reason for those modern girls acting so strange. Pay attention.

22 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-03-13 18:18 ID:GWR/DVb9

FMA
especially during the funeral,
that really got me.

23 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-03-14 01:50 ID:mlhKrgQT

A lot, I can remember now Kanon, Welcome to NHK, Sola, can't remember more.

24 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-03-14 01:54 ID:Heaven

>>20

Actually, you're watching the only really entertaining part. Don't bother trying to connect it to the rest of the story, because it's just silly anyway. Just enjoy the short respite from inanity.

25 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-03-14 07:41 ID:wFeEm4uW

Yea, now I'm on episode 12 next time I watch it. I am so confused about where Yukito went...x.x

28 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-04-18 05:58 ID:HPuncCHC

Yukito is the crow, damnit. It's a new arch. It's a retelling of the story as Yukito having become what he is, the wandering crow, and how... Uhm, what was her name... That retarded girl, is living her life without him.

29 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-04-18 13:22 ID:vl60In79

Except there is at least one point where crow Yukito and human Yukito are both in the house at the same time, but you can only see one at any given point.

Anyway, by far the best bit of Air was like, "it doesn't taste like cicadas?"

30 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-04-18 17:56 ID:o1R9Dzlh

Clannad the movie. ;_;

31 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-04-18 18:58 ID:5rUaIyyk

Dragon Ball Z. When ever someone died. Good thing they have dragon balls.

I want to have mean, nasty sex with Kotomi. I bet she's read some kamasutra, so there really shouldn't be a problem.

Seconded

34 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-04-20 12:53 ID:YXvN7+aC

ttgl was manly tears.

don't confuse them

35 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-04-20 22:35 ID:MBZWM2KK

Air、Kanon

36 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-04-20 22:40 ID:Heaven

And >>35 just had to go and confuse them right after being specifically told not to!

5 Cenimeters Per Second...gah.

5 Centimeters Per Second...gah.

39 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-04-22 03:51 ID:hx+cSh3m

I don't know how manly they were since it was a little melodramatic, but the Kenshin OVAs made me BAWWWW like a bitch.

40 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-04-22 07:21 ID:/dreERMS

that H-doujin for Gurren Lagann called "Imprison me in heaven"

Air, its so sad!!!

42 Name: !cSsNy1w6Kk!!HWXgDd57 : 2008-04-23 23:39 ID:9fIuOWml

UFOs Iriya no sora, elfen lied and Kanon(2006) for me. Those three were all really good...

43 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-04-24 05:07 ID:TK14Az65

Yeah the Kenshin OVAs were sad.

I keep reimagining how much better Trust & Betrayal could have been. When if in the climatic ending, when Tomoe leaps in the midle of Kenshin's slash and he cuts her down to death....his eyes had suddenly popped up huge and he stammered "Oro?"

44 Name: Random Anime Otaku : 2008-04-24 13:06 ID:0wsggZmZ

I shed gay tears after finishing Genshiken. I think I just felt like I was a part of that club room...:(

45 Name: LOVELYSTAR : 2008-04-24 13:06 ID:cgwCIkKb

wow.... ;; I feel for ya. Well actually the anime that caused me to cry [[though I am an apathetic butt-hole... >>]] was Petite princess Yucie..

In the second-to-last episode where her memory is taken away and she is taken back to earth/human world, she goes on as if nothing happened where in the place where the princess is chosen her friends were slowly fading away.....

That was truly tear-jerking.

"Kimi ga Nozomu Eien"
watch it with your girl, bet she'll shed tears
