Can anyone comment on his work. I hear it's fucked up even by today's standards.

The most lasting testament is the word taken from his name - Sadism.

his biggests works evenly alternate between crazy sex and repetitive philisophical personal agenda disguised as fiction.

to his credit, he certainly is an important thinker. someone's gotta say we should just stop the whole morality thing and have a giant fuck to death rapemurderorgy. and it's fun thinking of his ideas as a sort of protonihilism or existentialism. it's just that it's tiring to constantly get bludgeoned over the head with it when you're just trying to read about young children being flagellated.

That was not really his philosophy. He did abuse alot of servants and prostitutes when he was younger, but I think that was driven by a maniacal sex drive, with no regard to philosophy. Some of his escapades were not harmful though (e.g. gay sex and shoving a communion wafer into a prostitute's vagina while coming into a chalice used for the wine part of the ritual on Easter Sunday while shouting the french eqivelent of "Fuck you God!") After spending some time in jail and getting older he settled down, and thats when he started writing and thinking about philosophy. As far as I know he didn't commit any abuse after this point. His Philosophy was more that people had a right to write and read and talk about having a giant fuck to death rapemurderorgy, and participate in one if they wanted to. When he sat in the Natoinal Convention he held far left views (although the entire Convention was pretty far left,) but nothing relating to legalizing the type of abuse he commited when he was younger or described in his writing.
