East Asian Book Recommendation (3)

I need a Korean, Chinese, or Japanese novel set post-1650 for a paper for my East Asian history class. I'd prefer to do something Korean or Chinese because I have almost no familiarity with those literatures. (I have read Balzac and the Little Chinese seamstress, it was stupid.)

My tastes tend towards authors like Calvino, Pelevin, Murakami, and Bulgakov. Anyone like that in Korea or China who's been translated?
