Is it awesomely amazingly awesome or is it awesomely amazingly awesome?

Robert Jordan spent so long writing descriptions of dresses and of people pulling their braids he died before he could finish writing the actual story. I guess that's awesome in a sense, but...

That's why the books are so epic. The characters are so visual that your mind plays out the scenes you read. Detail like that is a must for epic fantasy, anyways. He was just unlucky in that he had that disease that shortened the lifespan he needed to finish his last book.

I enjoyed it until I hit book 6.

The problem with WoT is two-fold: most of the characters become increasingly detestable, and each novel covers a progressively shorter period of time.

The latter in particular was poison. The first two novels covered years, and a lot happened in them. After six it was a matter of days. Robert Jordan needed those excessive descriptions to fill out 1,000-page novels where very little actually happens.

He could have probed the psyches of the characters, but he didn't often, probably because he couldn't imagine interesting characters with depth.

The only good thing left with WoT was the colourful world. Too bad the rest went out with a whimper.

I hold by my theory that tossing bland Rand out and having his 3 girls do a yuri threesome would've made the series a squillion times more interesting.

Great world to roleplay in though, provided there aren't twink munchkins around whose only comfort are their stats and dice. Other than that, whatever poster #4 said.
