I'd like to reply to >>827. It's clearly New Year in Russia because it's like "western" Christmas and New Year merged. Also, December 31 through January 8 are holidays.

Orthodox Christmas is purely a religious feast celebrated on January 7. I suppose, historically atheist commies probably craved to receive their presents earlier.
