Ignoring books that were assigned to me back in middle/high school, Asimov's "Foundation & Earth", which I only read in the hopes of some kind of closure for the thoroughly irritating end of "Foundation's Edge". A perfect example of a great author writing himself into a corner (although if he'd lived longer he might have ended the sequence with satisfaction).
