If you're going to copypaste shit directly from /pol/ into the comments thread then at least don't make yourself so visible and obvious while doing it. The total number of English speakers, including as a secondary language, is estimated at 1.2 billion people worldwide. The same figure is approximately 28 million for Canada. Therefore, if all people have the same likelihood of saying something worthwhile, and something worthwhile has been recently said in the English language, there is only a 2.3% chance a Canadian said it.

56 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-8601 12:01

I disagree. I specifically chose a subjective term--i.e. "worthwhile" is relative to the subject--to make a weaselly statement that only is true under the set of qualifications considered.

This kind of "intentional soundbiting" is a powerful technique of persuasion in the right (or wrong) hands. Limbaugh and Trump are 9th-degree black belts of it if you want to see it in action; I fear I lack examples I can cite from other schools of thought, but trust me: they exist. You can be one too / 'cause saving our planet is the thing to do.

what if being "so hungry you could eat a horse" isn't a reference to the size of a horse, if that were the case then any similarly sized animal that is more often eaten would work, it is actually in reference to how horses were often backup emergency food for armies that had fallen on hard times like napoleon at borodino

it means to be so hungry that you would eat anything, even your horse which has been a loyal companion and sole source of transport

It's an overly simple hypothesis; I'd say that's mostly not right. But it's not completely wrong, either, as long as you mostly stick to Western cultures.

Admonitions against intoxication are perhaps older than writing but noticeably a minority opinion in many times and places. But it seems it wasn't super necessary to harp on it all that often, and so you get thinkers like Aristotle who aren't fans, and some Old Testament hard-asses, but for much of antiquity, getting crunk was usually limited to special occasions with religious meaning or something only the rich could afford. Though there were notable exceptions like the Dionysian cult, for example.

The bulk of ancient Greeks and Romans seem to have diluted their wine and practiced moderation for the most part. Some of the most temperate people of Western civilization, according to people who don't cite sources. Romans also, y'know, had aqueducts; relatively clean water. Even in medieval and early modern times the alcoholic drinks people had "instead of" water were really tame.

Of course in the Far East they used a lot of boiled water products, and while most interpretations of Islam view alcohol as ABSOLUTELY HARAM and their empires largely didn't revolve around its consumption, it is not surprising to find that there is a huge black market in Iran, where regretting drunk statements while sober and vice versa is a tradition older than the predominant religion.

next TES

you ought to be able to make multiple characters on the same save
only one of them would be the nerevarine/hero of kvatch/dragonborn/whatever the hell else and that would be the only character that could finish the main quest on that save
other characters could still do other stuff and you'd be able to find them in game etc
like if you became archmage of the mage's guild on one save and visited the mage's guild on another character you'd see your archmage character there doing archmage stuff
also if you joined the mage's guild on that second character you'd have an alternate version of the quest line that doesn't end in that character replacing the first but you still get some cool stuff

i realize i'm basically describing a single player offline MMORPG but that's basically what TES is anyway

Reminds me of what was done in Anvil of Dawn on a smaller scale where you got to pick from five characters, and it was possible to encounter ones you didn't pick along the quest (often dead or about to die...)

>>242
Building on that, I could imagine some kind of persistent-world roguelike.
If you die, you get to loot your old character's corpse if you find it. Fairly standard.
But if you get to a good spot like archmage or shopkeeper, you could abandon that character without dying and visit them in subsequent playthroughs in order to learn spells or buy items (you might need to somehow set them up to farm resources over time to make that happen). You'd be building up a civilisation, one NPC (or rather, ex-PC) at a time.

The episodes are all out of order, so if you watched them in the broadcast order you'll have to go back and watch them again to really appreciate them. I forget the actual order, but giyf.

Nyoro~n Churuya-san is best experienced at 2AM while stoned and pretty much never otherwise.
Haruhi-chan has some pretty great moments but feels kinda strained a lot of the time.
Neither of those is remotely canon. You can more or less skip them.

Feel free to skip most of the endless eight arc in S2, it was specifically made to troll viewers (the original story was like 30 pages long and only depicted the final iteration).

Disappearance (the movie) is good. I recommend it. Finish S2 first.

Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan is not canon and was animated by a different studio, but it's cute and generally good. Improvements include stabby-chan getting more personality and moeblob-chan getting less screentime (with that screentime becoming mostly an excuse to bring out lolfang-tan more often).

Everything that's animated follows the books pretty closely. There's enough material for another couple seasons, but for various reasons they'll most likely never be animated.

The Aya Hirano fiasco was definitely a fiasco, but there were bigger problems. One is that the author broke down and stopped writing anything. With no new books to promote, it's harder to convince the funds to flow. While that didn't stop Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan from happening, I doubt a proper 3rd season could get enough backing to happen, at least if they want to do it right. If only I were an eccentric billionaire...

I wanna say there were also issues with some of the head production personnel. I don't remember the details, but at the end of the day I think the biggest thing is that if the people with money really wanted S3 to happen, they'd find a way to make it happen.

I caught a few "touch my nipples, please" which I thought was kind of weird when a politely worded request is bookended by commands that include the words "cock" and "pussy." I don't think prescriptivism is the right attitude for any language unless you're some sort of proto-fascist, but English definitely lacks some sort of cultural institution that acts as the ultimate point of reference for the English language. The Spanish language has one. To some extent, dictionaries like Mirriam-Webster are fulfilling that role, but only in a loose sense.

For phrases only, I meant. Descriptivism is the only morally and historically acceptable attitude to take when it comes to word definitions. Non-literal "literally" is just an example of how language usage is malleable. However, phrases like "begs the question" were deliberately defined to have one meaning - additional, inaccurate meanings would be unscientific and ultimately destructive. In my opinion, anyway, there is that distinction to be made.

France has what you describe. They tried to mandate that "communications sans le wires" or whatever be the preferred terminology for Wi-Fi, rather than the established term with the cute pronunciation of "wee-fee".

It did okay in Japan, as far as I ever heard. There are numerous factors with these things; I can't possibly account for them all because it's not exactly my realm of expertise.

But I think one is that the Western press super didn't "get" it (compare Famitsu 34/40 to Metacritic 68). This is not the time or the place to rant about our gaming press--well maybe it is, but I'm trying to keep this paragraph paragraph-sized and minimum-controversy--but do consider this was a short couple years before the whole "Japanese games suck" thing.

Another, maybe not directly related but zeitgeisty kind of factor, is that around that time, the publisher (SE) had its hands busy with two other big releases--FFXIII and FFXIV. Far more marketable, even in Japan. Problem being, both FF projects had troubled developments and one of them was even a disaster with potential to end the company. When your company focus (no pun intended) is that far off and you need to make the saving throw, betting it all on something risky and edgetastic is something you might do as a small company, but probably not as a large publicly traded one.

My mockery is reserved for people who are attempting not to live a genuine life, >>441. If you represent such interests, and if you come off well, people begin to think of you instead of the poseurs.

Hipsters lack authenticity; that's why they crave it and waffle so much on whether they embrace or reject certain labels, hoarding stuff and ideas that will not save them--these are key narcissistic traits, by the way. So many people want to surrender all autonomy to something greater than themselves, in hopes that (say) a mask or a uniform or blindly following a religion (or lack thereof) can wipe away their bogosity, because in fact going through the motions can, for a limited time. But this is the opposite of what most philosophy has posited we should do, which is to have and/or build character, instead of being a character. As it turns out, almost everyone has some narcissistic traits and this is natural; it is also natural to outgrow such things.

The worst part is that all these ideas can be stated, but they cannot be given; rather, they can only take root. This is why I find it annoying, this ongoing meme that enlightenment comes through the Matrix's "red pill" (i.e. an epiphany) and you're exceptional for seeing the world for what it is; this is actually the original intended definition of "chuunibyou", it's not about pretending you have superpowers and that you're fighting some vast conspiracy and bad at hiding your power level, though it does manifest that way for many 14-year-olds (and it did for me). No, the real-life red pill is the individual; who is constructed over time, and very little of it is from hard, immediate lessons, but rather from constantly tackling what you believe and how you came to believe it. All while not letting your internal chaos distract you from the fact that in 1998, The Undertaker threw Mankind off Hell In A Cell, who plummeted 16 ft through an announcer's table.

Actually, the big ones seem to spin out about 10 or so generations in. To quote Sir John Glubb's _The Fate of Empires_:

Summary
As numerous points of interest have arisen in the course of this essay, I close with a brief summary, to refresh the readerfs mind.

(a) We do not learn from history because our studies are brief and prejudiced.
(b) In a surprising manner, 250 years emerges as the average length of national greatness.
(c) This average has not varied for 3,000 years. Does it represent ten generations?
(d) The stages of the rise and fall of great nations seem to be
The Age of Pioneers (outburst), The Age of Conquests, The Age of Commerce, The Age of Affluence, The Age of Intellect, The Age of Decadence.
(e) Decadence is marked by defensiveness, pessimism, materialism, frivolity, an influx of foreigners, the welfare state and a weakening of religion.
(f) Decadence is due to too long a period of wealth and power, selfishness, love of money and the loss of a sense of duty.

>>528
To follow up, let's provide a quick reality check. Glubby identified Great Britain as currently undergoing the age of decadence. Indeed, GB was roughly a bit more than 250 years old at the time of publication. He'd probably expected GB to have perished by now, but nope, it's already past the 300 year old mark and shows no signs of falling.

Ill-defined adjectives like "pessimism" or "frivolity" are pretty much forever present across history and generations. And it always seems like the current generation is more frivolous than the previous generations, but this is just our tiny, microscopic, reductive logic playing tricks on us. The same reductive, shitty logic that makes some people arbitrarily divide up Rome into tiny 250-year long periods, even though that makes no fucking sense at all.

Also fascists are per definition, a bunch of fucking permanent losers.

>The same reductive, shitty logic that makes some people arbitrarily divide up Rome into tiny 250-year long periods, even though that makes no fucking sense at all.

Glubb divides it into two stages where he identifies the so-called Age of Pioneers and Age of Conquest. For the Republic that started around the time of the first and second Punic Wars. For the Empire it started with Augustus, or maybe the five good Emperors so about a hundred years after Augustus, and ends somewhere in the 4th century probably. A better objection would be to provide a concrete example which follows Glubb's proposition of the progression of the ages but doesn't fall after fifty years. For example: the Ottoman Empire, which rose to prominence in 1453 (maybe you could argue for a later date) but didn't fall until 1922, or maybe a bit earlier if you want to argue about it's effective fall in 1908. That being said, it did go through a long period of decadence from 1700 onward, so it could be said that it was just propped up by foreign powers (as indeed it was at times) instead of collapsing naturally.

People talk about "a civilization", and empires correspond to those roughly; the word does kind of mean city-ifying. But people also talk about civilization at large, and as best I can tell, civilization is not a state, a society, a people, a heritage, a language, a culture, a belief, an interest, a technology, etc. or any other such granfalloon at any level of any hierarchy. Yet to this day many people are all too ready to assert that some simplistic attribute they share with somewhere between 1 (point zero) to 7 billion-ish others is an "identity" when it cannot identify them. Worse, they will often claim it

Civilization is more like temporomemetic infrastructure. Some institutions survive, some do not. Some of what we inherit is good, some of it is not. And survival isn't always the best thing, even; it simply is. So in some senses antiquity is still with us, just ship-of-Theseus'd to all hell. There are those who would tear this apart, or who insist that it needs never be mended; the one standing "athwart history, yelling Stop" is often interpreted as some fuckwit who thinks everything is perfect the way it is and nothing that comes after could ever improve upon things, but the fool on the hill is more like a shipwright who just realized it's actually a fucking treehouse. And when the Earth, the Moon and the Sun are all gone, EVA will exist, so long as one person remains. It'll be lonely, but as long as one person still lives, it will be eternal proof that mankind ever existed.

Everyone's so quick to draw lines in the sand over stupid shit lately. Netiquette is dead, firefox spellcheck doesn't even recognize the word, the only thing that's left of any kind of online discussion is the lowest common denominators from both sides flinging shit at each other. The fools don't even realize that the true enemy isn't the Jews or the bourgeoisie or any of that crap, it's the Demiurge who cursed us to an existence on this plane of filthy mundane matter.

This is an anonymous board, you cads. Post it, or don't hold positions you yourself seem to feel won't hold up to the slightest bit of scrutiny, or shit, just don't come back for a few days and chances are nobody will still be talking about it and that way you can even keep your insecurity if you want--seems to me you see "fascists" where there's like two, tops, and they say some shocking things yeah but it's not even close to the bile you can see posted on /pol/ every day. My advice is to keep it to another board considering the topic matter, though.

Actually, if you want to be agreed at a lot and maybe see someone who disagrees get "moderated" (or banned), that's usually a matter of posting in the right subreddit.

And if you disagree with me, then you, sir, are worse than Hitler. And probably a racist.

Continuing the why-am-i-killing-myself-with-nostalgia-for-shit-you-remember-as-being-shit quest, I have wasted ungodly time online today coming up with only scant evidence that one of the most popular Internet game music radio stations and in particular its only talk program ever even existed, never mind the content itself. There are people who were on it and kept the same names. There are some inbound links still up that have managed to never be updated. Knowing that it jumped stations a couple times hasn't helped dredge up more, nor would I want to really contact anyone from it or waste any time listening to the many hours of it because there was no relationship there. Why am I doing this.

Yeah I also have a life as a non-anonymous poster, and all these people going "boy am I glad I grew up in the 80s none of my teenage shit is online" might not realize that the same is 99% true if you just happened to put it in chats/IMs or on some site that hasn't lasted (in my case, EZBoard forums), and if you never drew the ire of someone who would assiduously document your shit.

BTW, if you have something you were hoping to save and it's on a floppy, there is a significant chance it's not retrievable now. Better go check. Or you can just decide it's not important and toss it, which is probably more realistic.

Like, some people (think the "IFLS teehee I am such a nerd" crowd) still act like the Library of Alexandria burning was some cataclysmic event causing us not to have books of the ancient world (perhaps unaware that it probably happened more than once), but historians assure us that the real problem is that paper decays and nobody had invented the photocopier back then; it takes extreme effort to copy a book by hand, and there wasn't even enough time to copy every work people cared about, much less insignificant works. The Dissolution of the Monasteries was probably worse, honestly.

Compared to any previous point in history, there is more information available, more readily, and at an increasing rate of production, so statistically that is unsurprising.

It's worse than that: our information actually degrades much quicker now. DVDs have a ~30-100 year lifespan, hard drives less, etc. We tend not to notice this as much as we probably should because the surrounding devices themselves become outdated quickly and get replaced. Our paper is generally high-quality, but we don't write diaries or letters on it. Newspapers, of course, will disintegrate far quicker than books. I've heard many theorize that we're actually living in what will be a Dark Age of immense proportion, because we do not (generally) carve things into stone or metal currently. You'll still be able to read Roman war memorials decades after your hard drives have given up.

Our hope for long-term information survival is that people keep building new hard drives and backing up old drives onto them. This is analogous to the system of monks copying holy books in that it requires semi-regular human maintenance. The analogy also extends to include copying errors, discarding of guninterestingh material, and cannibalization of other records when the supply of blank media runs dry for a while.

There are serious long-term archival projects (e.g. M-disc), but adoption isn't high. I hear there's a government employee somewhere out in the midwest whose job it is to burn a new copy of Wikipedia to such a disc every six months, then store it in an old missile silo.

What gets really fun is when some really important stuff is meant to be mostly buried but gets out somehow. FOIA and declassification procedures are good if a bit slow and prone to bias, but stuff like Nixon's tapes, Soviet committee reports, the DNC leaks... these things are practically black swan events. History almost never gets such a near-complete view of the facts that the people who are supposed to have the facts have.

I remember a fair few forums I used to use that have since been shuttered, mostly anime sites, and in a way I am glad that those childish things have disappeared, but I think it would be better to still have them to look back and reflect on the fact that you once did not know what you know now.

>>674
There is also the problem that storing information is not profitable, take twitch streams for an example, they delete them because it does not make them money to keep them long after the fact, but a large part of understanding an in joke or part of that culture may be something from an old stream that no new person can ever find.

>>676
There's this whole bandwaggoning onto SSD that has been happening for some time now, but SSD has a limited number of read/write operations it can ever preform, meaning the information is gone if it ever hits that cap. The deeper issue here with the lack of information for the future is a far more human one, people get bored of things and move on, so something that may have been insurmountably important to the genesis of an item in the eye of the cultural zeitgeist may have been completely forgotten about, abandoned, and erased. You could look at world2ch that lead to the creation of 4chan but whose archive is incomplete and even the people who care passionately about it tried to archive what they remember, or you could look at old movies, the BBC printed over the first runs of most of it's iconic old TV shows because the film was more expensive than how much they valued the content.
As for high quality paper, for certain things people have deemed important we make copies that will last, but for things actually important to the culture of people on the street we use toiletpaper that will degrade. The reason Marvel #1 is so valuable is that it was printed on shitty paper and was uninteresting, but it led to the creation of a media empire. Similarly the fictions that led to the mythos of the wild wild west are lost entirely, they were printed on chipped pulp that degraded within months, much of American culture and even the motives of the third reich were based on these books that are all but completely gone. So how many issues of comic High Action or Megastore or LO or even Jump do you think will survive into the next decade? How many popular doujin artists are there whose early work no longer exists in any form as it was never archived?
Now when it comes to digital it is alleviated a bit by how easy it is to distribute things, although this is illegal so there is probably a fair amount lost to not wanting to be a pirate, but there is still the problem that a lot of media, especially games, changes online. Think about how many updates there have been to League of Legends or Maplestory or even Starcraft, each of these versions may be wildly different from the ones before or after and it is unlikely that anyone has a record of all of them, and that's only works that you could ever obtain something like a browser based game would require a dedicated person to reverse engineer it every update which are not necessarily ever document. Phone apps are much the same but even harder to distribute or maintain and given how easy it is to get people to use an app many influential versions of content are completely lost within months.
A dark age in history doesn't even begin to describe it, it would be as if all the knowledge about the culture was lost then too, if we never found pots or swords from the romans and only knew they existed because of their bones, vast sects of our culture will never be remembered simply because our media degrades and the only people who thought to preserve it were the internet archive and their woefully inadequate system.

That's per-sector. Information isn't gone, it's just moved into a pool of spare space (around 10% total capacity in size) when write errors start happening. SMART also warns you that you should be getting a new drive soon. It's not really a bandwagon as much as the current technology for storage with the same longevity as spinning rust.

Anyway, I like the ephemeral nature of impermanent data, as it is on the internet. (So does every Snapchat user.) It feels more "in the now" and personal, and gives you freedom to let fingers spew as mine are now. Most information ever created has been lost to time, and we're okay with that. Plus, nobody in a decade or two will have time to care about whatever trash people wrote on phpBB in 1998 or Kareha in 2017, because the same amount of data will have been produced in the previous year as all years prior.

finally able to put some logic to it in my head

so in Japanese every noun is a mass noun until quantified with a counter word
In English:
Take "water", youu can't quantify it with just a numeral by itself, a counter word [liter, bucket, crapton] is needed to turn it from a mass noun into a count noun, except in some special cases like ordering a drink(we'll take two waters, please) where the counter word is still implied but not directly stated. Grammatically you could have an arbitrary number of craptons of water even if most people wouldn't phrase it like that.

So:
ƒ„ƒM - a goat, the goat, some goats, goats in general
ƒ„ƒMˆê•C - one item of goat

What really irks me about reddit is that they actively discourage original content. You can get banned if over 10% of your posts are your own stuff. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

So what ends up getting upvoted is usually a repost of a repost of a suboptimal copy of somebody else's content, often without giving them credit, like a shitty gif of an uncredited youtube video.

722 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-8683 15:06

The whole point is that it's an aggregator. You're supposed to find the best parts of the internet and bring them to reddit for free.

723 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-8683 21:04

>>722
But aggregation is only a part of it, though. It's a discussion site with topical communities, interests, fetishes, whatever. Take some game for example, shouldn't be topics "look at this piece of shit I have created" be fine or are you supposed to snoop around top viewed youtube/popular streams and make gifs of that gameplay? It's just as stupid as those imgur "dumps" of regurgitated unfunny memes that somehow are always upvoted to the front page. Who does that?!

724 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-8683 23:06

I realize now I wasn't necessarily clear that I was talking about imgur.

Reddit is a different situation and your use of it is pretty much exactly like how I came by my more esoteric gaming knowledge in times past.

As to why longer-form (but, alas, not longer-ongoing) discussions have centralized there, I think there is an economics of effort sort of thing in play, where forum starters could take more effort to host and maintain one on their own dime, and posters could take more effort to sign up for yet another account and get a feel for "community" first, and lurkers could take more effort to read the less popularly selected posts, but it is expedient in each case to just have someone else do that shit.

I do get that it may have been intended as a half-serious "hot pockets" kind of joke, but >>722 is correct as to what the site is "supposed" to be. The masses, however, much prefer to use it in convenient ways, and they clash with the admins all the damn time over such issues (proCSS, AMAgeddon, votes used as popularity ratings and not "this did/didn't contribute").

"I am not Spock" is, ironically, a rhetorically sound Spock-like statement. Star Trek has always been a bit iffy on what Vulcans consider to be "logic", but even someone with no initiation in philosophy could easily understand that within limited contexts, especially with incomplete definitions of things, something can both be and and not be itself.

I'm the one who was running it, and I'm still around! It went into indefinite hiatus due to health problems, then I could never really commit to continuing it as I've been neck deep in academia ever since. It is a shame to leave it unfinished, and in theory I'd like to give it the ending it deserves, but the outlook isn't terribly positive. Who knows, though? Miracles do happen.

For the record, if anyone else wants to take over as GM, or to run a sequel or spiritual successor or something like that, you have my full blessing. Also, I don't know if it would be of interest to you, or anyone else here, but I have since managed to publish one or two non-silly short stories in a local literary magazine. I might even post one if you ask very nicely...

Im looking for a programming language, it cant be sukuriputsu (thats japanese for scripting) or any interpreted language. It has to be of 2 or more puratuforumu (thats japanese for 2 platforms) and has be be chibi (small) sized. And has to be really kawaii (cute). Also It has to be about 10-20 megs. And you have to post pastebins of it first (i want to make shure it's kawaii [cute]). And it would be nice if it came with matching text editor (WITH syntax file). OH! and it CANNOT have any first order closures, or be made out of Lisp. It has to be made of x86, or something like that. Also it would be nice if it was made in japan. and not in china or corea (korea) or whatever. I have found a programming language similar to the one im describing in e-bay, but it was 1 puratuforumu, and i dont want my Rinukusu (Linux) to touch my other things (it can get corrupted and i would not like that, plus 2 puratuforumu looks more kawaii)

It was years ago, I was just walking along, minding my business while on my way home from work. Suddenly, a dark, nondescript van with "free beer" scrawled on the side slowly creeps up from behind me. The window rolls down and staring at me is a young blue-haired girl with pigtails, maybe about 9 years old, eyeing me up suspiciously. She calls out in a slightly hushed voice:

-"Hey... Hey buddy. You want some classic rock cd's? I've got a ton in the back."

I was told never to speak to little girls I didn't know, but the offer was so enticing I foolishly replied

"R-really? D-do you have The Beatles? O-or maybe Bob Seger?"

She chuckled darkly, "Oh yeah, I've got everything. The Who, Floyd, Tom Petty, you name it. But you'll have to hop in the back here if you want me to give them to you."

I knew I should have ran, but part of me was too scared of what she might do if I said no, as I walked to the back I could swear I saw her licking her lips out of the corner of my eye.

As I reached for the handle the doors suddenly flung open and about five lolis reached out and grabbed me.

I screamed as loud as I could, but one of them gagged me with her panties and they pulled me in with their mighty loli strength.

They pinned me down, as I struggled I heard one of them say "Sit on the bitch's face, Sanae. Shut him the fuck up".

Suddenly my vision was then completely obscured and my screams muffled by pink softness, with what looked like a cartoon bear's face on the back.

As tears rolled down my cheeks they laughed at my pointless struggle. It was at that point I realized there really was no rock.

It's possible to browse DQN via elinks, which has no image support. The SJIS doesn't work unless you have your terminal set up for proportional-width font, changing CSS doesn't work (the default renders fine, however), the only really hard part is CAPTCHA. When I have to post that way, I have to download the image and view it in something like aview. I have to zoom in pretty far to fully get each letter.

Yes and no...I don't think there was ever a really definitive golden era. It's more like a long history punctuated by high and low points. And I'm sure people would disagree on what were the best/worst threads.

Highlights for me off the top of my head are the original grandpa threads, the DQN rules thread, All Alone For Christmas (as usual), Pax Tsukuru, Title, September 5000 celebration, the THREAD, DQN Sandwich, Daddy Cool kidnapping incident, all the Yoshinoya Rant Parodies, the question thread, DQN short novel, that murder mystery thread with the Ministers, the demanding thread, the grinding noises/control tower story, the choose your own adventure thread.

Note that these are all spread out chronologically, and have always surrounded by plenty of shitposts, so it's hard to pin down a golden era. Maybe if somebody charted out all the best threads to make a definitive timeline of DQN, we could figure out when DQN was at its best. But dwelling too much on past nostalgia is sad, better to look to the future and post more new content.

DQN has definitely changed a lot in the past decade. Probably because we're all getting older, and a lot of older posters have left and new ones have trickled in. But DQN still manages to deliver QUALITY now and then, like the recent PUNCTUAL GOMEZ or . Even these "contentless" threads still have some QUALITY moments now and then.

I still have hope for DQN and look forward to seeing what new stupid shit we can come up with in the future. If you miss the "golden age" then you should make more threads/posts like the ones you miss!

Oops, meant to say "PUNCTUAL GOMEZ or [some other recent thing]" but I couldn't think of anything immediately. I swear there's still good stuff on DQN now and then though.

I've different always seen it as different eras depending on the prevalence of thread types on the main page. There was the "ITT we are" era, character thread era, "previous poster is" era, CYOA era, etc. All throughout there was peppering of interesting long lived threads like the novel thread and the nomics thread which were like nuggets of gold.

We're kind of in the "Post things from other places" era now with the most active threads being composed of:

  1. CTRL-V
  2. Beyond DQN
  3. Youtube links
  4. Last Google Search
  5. Scavenger hunt
  6. Wikipedia thread
  7. Torrent sharing

I miss more original content character thread stories, but I don't mind the "posting things from other places" threads. However, what was good about those was the content was –‚c‚p‚m@‚p‚t‚`‚k‚h‚s‚x–; for instance, it felt like the wikipedia thread and the youtube thread, each post was a fragment of a property of what DQN "meant"... windows into esoteric interests related to that common thread that ties us to this board, whatever that is. Today it more often just feels like more "internet-random-lol" content I'd expect to see at SAoVQ. The Beyond DQN one is interesting when it's strange quotes from obscure dead message boards, but it's very boring when used as a soapbox to relay petty meatspace political opinions.

Am I wrong in guessing this is old users leaving and new users arriving with less awareness of their new surroundings? It reminds me of a September but I can't remember which one

>>932 The scavenger hunt thread has had 2 posts in 1100 days, I don't call that active!

I suppose it is a little dark how Friends lose their memory when eaten (absorbed?) by Ceruleans. I almost cried with Serval when she struggled with her lost memories of Mirai. But at least it seems they never really die, just reincarnate, so not that dark. Definitely less dark than the real animal world where animals eat each other and stay dead.

I had been hoping that Japari Park was really in a post-apocalyptic world where Kaban was the only remaining human, but it seems pretty likely now that humans are still around, they just had to evacuate the island because of the Ceruleans.

978 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-8757 12:59

If you haven't already, try the fanmade episode 12.99. Really feels like another normal episode.

979 Name: (*゚ー゚) : 1993-09-8757 14:18

>>977 I think when they get eaten they're converted back into whatever animal they were before. I don't think they actually lose their memories, but their animal brains can't handle complex memories involving things like speech and written language. Whatever doesn't fit back in their animal brain just gets kind of shaved off. So when Kaban got eaten she didn't lose her memories because she changed from a human Friend to a regular human, she didn't have to shave anything off because her brain didn't get downgraded. And when Serval saw Mirai she knew her voice, which animals are good at remembering (think of your dog coming when you and only you call for it) but nothing else about her. Serval probably got eaten in the initial Cerulean outbreak and turned back into a normal serval, but then was turned back into a Friend for a second time.

I'm not sure how different it would be. After all, breasts contain no muscles, so it's not like her titties would be directly "stronger". Although, I suppose that Keijo would accustom the athlete to making motions which have the main intention of moving her breasts. So, I suppose that playing Keijo could make one better at paizuri. But what if her strategy revolved more around her butt.
