However, I have a specific discussion topic: male facial hair. It seems that I can never get a very clean shave; I always have a slightly dark shadow on my upper lip that I hate. The razor I'm using is the "Quattro." What am I doing wrong? Or should I not worry about it?

Correction: My razor is actually the Gillette Fusion. It's brand new so I've only used it a few times. Sometimes I use shaving cream and sometimes not but it doesn't make any visible difference as far as I can tell.
Shave after taking a shower, and don't use shaving cream.

A Quattro user here. I used to shave just after showering, but since my eyesight is shit, and nobody bothered to teach me just how to shave, I figured out how to feel shave, and just do that in the shower instead.
i used gillete fusion, but i cant find it different with cheaper disposable ones (i also tried the electric one, but its broken). and also i found it sometimes its painful after i shave, should i start using after shave, or should i shave with shaving cream? or theres something wrong with me...
I find shaving cream makes the razor irritate my skin less but I think that's partially that the specific cream I'm using is made to be like that.
Also, aftershave will almost invariably hurt more than doing nothing. I use an aftershave balm which seems to reduce the pain.
I currently use the Fusion too. I tried electric for a while and swore by it but ever since that razor broke I haven't been able to find the same model, nor any other model that works as well as the old one did.
I've been thinking of going to a professional barber and getting an extra-close straight-razor shave at the start of each (or every other) week.
Anyone else do this?
Would you trust him/Can you sue him if he cuts off your ear?

OP, I've had that problem too, and I think it's natural when you have a beard for a while? I don't know, I'm growing mine out.
My boyfriend uses an electric shaver and he seems to get a pretty clean shave but he tries to leave a little scruff for me because I like to rub the back of my hand on it.

I use an electric shaver, cause I am lazy. Then again, I kind of like letting some of the beard stay, but it has to look uniform, not like it just grew and grew.
does it mater which direction we shave? i usually shave against the hair direction (upward from the bottom)
Generally, to avoid cuts, you should shave WITH the hairs.
Though I noticed that I don't get as clean a shave if I do that.
I do it both directions: first with then against.
Have you tried using a good shaving foam? Using water/soap dries out my skin and makes the chances of knicking a real deal. I'm not really using a foam as it is a type of paste. Try the stuff from Kiehl's, it works great. You can get ingrown hairs if you shave against the direction of the hairs. I'd suggest going with the direction of the hair, then go in directions 90 degrees to the direction of growth. You make three cuts, the result will be a very fine shave without the extra discomfort of going against the direction of growth.
I have really coarse Arab hair that grows in quite a lot of directions, and it's kind of hard to determine which direction to shave, though. :/
i got a little question, i never shave with a mirror (i never bother to look at my face a lot). but then since i look at this thread might as well get one and look at my own beard, and start taking care of it properly.
then something worries me, after i shave i notice that there's a small bumps all over the lower lips and upper lips of my face (where the mustache and beard grows). it doesn't shown very much when my face is still, but if i'm laughing i can see it really well.
what is this? im in a little bit of panic now...

Don't panic, that's normal after shaving. You probably should shave with warmer water or shaving cream if you don't already, and shave in the direction of the hairs.
I have some hair growing on my penis. Should I shave it?
