Men with long hair (57)

1 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-15 21:56 ID:3lqty2mR

I'm a guy and I'm trying to grow my hair long.

So far, it's now reached my shoulders, but I don't like how it's curling up there since I have straight, black, typical asian hair.

What should I do to fix this problem?

8 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-16 11:24 ID:qjM46NQ7

If you could be bothered with the maintenance, use a straightener.

If not, tie it up.

My hair stays straight to half way down my back anyway. I doubt I will ever need it longer than that, and if I do one day want it longer than that, I have told someone to slap me about the face.

[OP] I treat my hair like a little girly by washing it every 2 days, using conditioner and airdrying it.

Same here. I don't care if my 70cm-long hair is a turn-off for somebody. It's a turn-on for me!

Sounds like standard hygiene, but if washing your hair makes you feel like any less of a man..

I'm a female, so I'd know. Guys almost always look better with long hair than short.
I agree with >>8. Use a straightener. It really isn't as much of a hassle as it seems, and it'll ensure your hair stays nice and straight. Don't use it toooo much though, as it will damage your hair over time.
As long as you keep it neat and nice and clean, I'm sure your hair will look great :)

OP here, how often can I use a hair straightener without damaging my hair?

>>17

Already did.

We're not talking about shaggy sort of long, but ponytail stuff!

If your name ain't Fabio, then cut that tail.

Also, "I'm a female" =/= "I'm a person with good taste".

20 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-18 18:12 ID:UkmDAkw8

I have had long hair for twenty years. I brush it at least once a week and use a mild shampoo. If I had my hair in a ponytail, lol work, then I brush it a bit more often since it likes to tangle up after being in a ponytail.

I have seen so many guys with ponytails, that would look so hot with shorter hair. I remember a guy in highschool that had shoulder length hair. In the last year of highschool, he cut it. All of a sudden girls were checking him out left-right and centre, and let's just say he became really popular with them..

I know my hair likes to take it easy when it comes home in the evening, and I don't blame it. What's wrong with a hard working scalp just lounging in front of the television or taking a nap for a few hours?

pwned. how do you feel now, 23?

And then some guys are just the opposite, I knew a guy at work who cut his hair and all of a sudden he became somewhat more generic and uninteresting.

27 Name: Anonymous Stylist : 2007-12-14 17:12 ID:KFO98Igx

I have been considering cutting my hair, as I am going bald in the back. Actually, I have been for years, its just that people are pointing it out to me. My hair does past my shoulder blades. I want to do something nice with it, like donate it to locks of love or something, but at the same time every time I consider going to the hair salon I freak out.
I am thinking about just shaving my head and calling it a day, but like 26 said the last time I cut my hair I became generic and uninteresting. @_@

28 Name: Anonymous Stylist : 2007-12-15 01:28 ID:o/WR7kDn

You could have it shaved for charity - raise some money for a cause that appeals to you. Once people pledge money you won't want to back out of it.

16 here :) OP, I'm pretty sure there is no way to use a straightener without damaging your hair, but as long as you aren't using it too often, like every single day, it shouldn't do too much damage. Also, there are conditioners etc you can buy which will help reduce the damage you do and kee your hair in good condition.

>>19, >>21, I'm female = My opinion represents the tastes of at least some other women. And I'm likely to know what i'm talking abou as far as hair care goes. Btw, I'm known for having good taste and generally high standards.

kinda pointless observation i'v made... there's an asian guy at my university with hair about 20cm past his shoulders. It's always clean and shiny and worn loose, not quite dead straight, and he looks really good with it.

Help: my hair is very fine and wavy, which leaves it all poofy after I shower. What can I do to make it straighter? It's not long anymore, because after it grows a certain length it just ends up curling up at the back and sides. Should I just keep it short or let it out but straighten it? When I was a kid I used to have - according to everybody who knew me - the most beautiful long strawberry blond Irish hair, but now that I'm 21 it just seems to unmanageable.

37 Name: ugh hugh : 2008-01-23 03:29 ID:0u3t1wq7

whats wrong with it curling or going wavy? I think it looks cute like that.

38 Name: Anonymous Stylist : 2008-01-29 13:21 ID:85vH4YJF

Hey, I cut my hair yesterday. Went a little below halfway down on my back. Now it's to the shoulders, with the front shorter.

I loved my long hair, but I decided to cut it anyway (was getting bored of taking care of it, and a few people suggested that I would be better with shorter hair).

Looks like everyone thinks I look great like this - especially all my female friends, some of whom just said "...wow!". It's quite encouraging.

And now I'm starting to think I should've done that earlier. Hehe.

Yeah. That's not too long. A fringe with that would be kind of hot.

Now preach it to your fellow ponytail brothers.

Straight hair requires time and effort. Wash, condition, brush, dry, brush, straightening iron, leave-on conditioner. I have nightmares thinking of the days back when I just towel it dry and walk out the door.

I'm >>38, and can do that again. Really, it's a relief.

Also, I think I'll cut them again a little shorter in the neck, so they still go down a little but not to the shoulders.

That said, I think it's strange how girls seem to think that you're not paying attention to your hair when you grow it long (I had it halfway down my back, remember), when you know it's way more trouble (and that's an euphemism) to take care of it; and when you cut it short, they think you're paying more attention to your image, taking care of your hair and stuff.

I mean, what the hell. That said I love my new hairstyle.

43 Name: Anonymous Stylist : 2008-02-11 15:50 ID:031zP96m

It's because when a man grows his hair long it seems like he is too lazy to go get it cut, even if actually he puts a lot of effort into keeping it healthy.

Unless it looks styled, it would most definitely seem so!

45 Name: Anonymous Stylist : 2008-02-11 21:44 ID:85vH4YJF

It wasn't "styled", I kept it tied (low, on the neck), or sometimes untied (usually when there was no wind at all). But it was always clean, brushed and shiny.

46 Name: Beverly : 2008-02-14 20:26 ID:0BXAUYGF

just use a straightening iron

47 Name: Anonymous Stylist : 2008-02-15 00:33 ID:iMWv1gvw

I used to have hair past my chest but I cut it after I got arrested and thought I might have had to appear in court. The girls like it better short, or so it seems anyway.

48 Name: Anonymous Stylist : 2008-02-16 10:30 ID:Heaven

And what girls think is always a deciding factor in what hairstyle to have when in court. Probably because the majority of judges are female.

Judge Joe Brown nigga.

I love the man with long hair

51 Name: Anonymous Stylist : 2008-02-20 04:50 ID:zjx1v6vV

Dude, long hair is a serious commitment. I have curly hair almost to my ass that tangles and takes like an hour to detangle in the shower, but it is so worth it. I have had girls come out of nowhere and ask to touch it, and say how nice it is.

52 Name: Anonymous Stylist : 2008-03-29 01:26 ID:iyHFv/8n

How'd you guys with curly hair let it grow? Mine is all wavy, and I'm having a hard time letting it grow. It just seems to grow into a ball, and it takes me a long time to keep it quiet everyday, since it's still short.

53 Name: Anonymous Stylist : 2008-04-03 01:41 ID:Ek9WeYwD

I'm a guy and I have hair down to my waist
Just keep letting it grow, and I guess as it gets longer it will weigh itself down

54 Name: Anonymous Stylist : 2008-05-28 07:24 ID:jN8W5Cko

Straighten it....

Probably should cut it though. Long hair is annoying.

55 Name: Anonymous Stylist : 2008-10-04 11:33 ID:UBGRZo+h

What does /fashion/ think of dreads?
