[Cool?] Glasses [Nerd?] (9)

Hey guys, I'm in need of some opinions.

I have worn glasses since I was 5 years old... my eyesight is completely horrible, such that my lenses have always been extremely thick, and I've not had much luck with contacts (bad astigmatism, they won't stay properly aligned). The pair I'm currently wearing are about 4 years old, and in pretty poor shape, as well as not matching my prescription any more. So... I'm in the market for a new pair, that hopefully will be a little more stylish than what I'm currently sporting.
Apparently, the dark plastic, squarish, 'geek' look is big these days... but somehow, I think something like that would take me out of the 'nerd-cool' area into the realm of the simply 'nerd'.

So.... what should I be looking for in functional and fashionable eyewear?

Oh, here's a pitcher.

well, i wear glasses too. it's pretty common now- nothing wrong with it.
well, from the looks of it, u desperately need new glasses. its not good to wear glasses that no longer match ur prescription.
well, u should try thick-rimmed glasses. rectangular mayb? how about that?

Try round glasses, I think they are very cool and stylish. But wtach out, they don't look good on everyone.
Why don't you go to your local optician, I'm sure they can give you some advises.

how about rectangle glasses? they don't have to be the thick rimmed plastic glasses that you were talking about. I prefer metal frames because even when I'm going out with friends or working they seem to complement my style. You can also try semi-rimless frames or rimless frames. Rimless frames in my opinion are good but they're a lot to maintain because when you wipe your glasses you could end up breaking them instead because the only thing holding them together is the bridge piece in the middle and the temples so be careful.

Play around with styles and ask a friend if your not so sure.

Semi-rimless is great usually.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but your current glasses aren't exactly making you look more "nerd-cool" than "nerd". Rectangular frames, thin rimmed or thick, would suit you better. I'm skeptical of rimless because your lenses are thick, and that's not really flattering. Metal black frames if you don't want that mainstream geek look.

What I wear. Problem there is that sometimes the frames are a little flimsy; I had to get my left temple replaced because of bad hinge design. :\ But then again I guess that's just my fault for picking weak frames. w

go for the simple look.
i recently got a pair of two-tone black emporios. they're great. plastic is in, but its all about the color. i wouldnt use the big glasses unless thats your style. but if you want something thats going to make you look more sophisticated you'll need to go with small/average framed glasses.
