I've decided that I should create a new style for myself before going to college, as I'm tired of being mistaken for a boy. The only thing left to do is to learn how to use makeup. It's really, really confusing, and I have no idea where to start. I've never worn makeup in my life. Please help me! What kind of makeup should I buy? How do I apply it? I've been searching on google, but everything I find is just go confusing. I can't find anything for a person who has no idea what they're doing. Please help!

Basically, just use makeup that accentuates your feminine features. Usually you'll start with a foundation to smooth out your skin (match the color with your real skin or it'll look really gross) , then throw some blush on your cheeks. Lipstick, obviously, is for making your lips look yummier. Lipliner goes around the edges to define them more clearly. Similarly, eyeliner goes on the edge of your eyelids, and eyeshadow makes the eyelids more obvious. Mascara goes on your eyelashes if you want to make them darker.

Look at the makeup other people around you are using, and take note of what affects what. Pick up a couple fashion magazines and look for makeup tips. Ask a couple of friends (who know how to use makeup) for advice.

In my opinion (which not everyone shares, so salt appropriately), the idea is to use as little makeup as possible to achieve the desired effect. The more you use, the more artificial you look. If you keep it subtle, people won't notice as much of a difference when you feel lazy one morning and don't put any makeup on. And they'll still recognize you for who you are.

One thing: choose what to put in value, eyes or lips. Never, ever, ever, accentuate both unless you want to look vulgar.

And if you have naturally beautiful eyes, of course, go for the eyes.

If you think they are too large and thus draw too much attention, why not, of course. It's up to you. But maybe they are an advantage and not a thing to draw attention away from? A bit of gloss or something could make them yummy. Just try both and see what suits you best.

Also, try using a neutral/flesh-tone color on your lips if you feel they're too big. If it all kinda-sorta blends in, it won't be as noticeable.

one thing my mom did with me when i was about to go into high school. She knew i knew nothing about make up and would prolly make myself look like a clown so she made an appointment with a makeup artist in our community. It doesn't cost to much and they know how to excentuate your features.

Just let them know when you are going in that you want to learn how to apply makeup on yourself on a regular basis, that way they are not trying to red carpet glam you up in a way you can never repeat. Most makeup artists, at least those over 25 are really good about this and can offer amazing tips based on the way your face is instead of getting generic tips.

try looking at a color me beautiful book. the one on amazon (and the one my mom has) is from the 80's, so the pictures are out of date, but the advice isn't. It will help you with what colors are good for you, which is necessary because even if you apply everything correctly, if it's the wrong shade it will make you look terrible.
