It seems to me these days that skirts are so short, shirts so low, thongs are popping out everywhere. Not just in the young girls too, it's everybody! I couldn't believe some of the underwear I found in my daughter's drawers, and the clothing in her closet. And when she goes to school I often think, "Is she allowed to wear that!?". Am I just an old fogey who doesn't know about fashion, or is this really in bad taste?
The human body is a beautiful thing. That said, the social implications of showing off certain parts of said body are usually slanted towards the ideas of easy sex.
It's said that you should "flaunt it if you got it", but one also has to take into the account the social signals some clothing will send off. Personally, I don't like getting hit on by sleezy guys, so I don't wear short skirts and low cut shirts. I don't think women who do wear them are necessarily sluts, but they shouldn't be surprised when/if they are treated as such.
I personally find it disgusting. It might be trendy and fashionable but it isn't even sexy, it's obscene. Sexy is not about showing it all off, sexy is about mystery. There is nothing mysterious about a thong popping out of your jeans and cleavage down to your belly button.
I think it just feeds their low self-esteem with something to make them feel worthwhile and worth a damn. Where I live, about 40% of the girls 18-30 wear super short-shorts and high-heels and are decked out in what we'd call in America "hoes and tricks".
That last paragraph is probably true as it pertains to me. But hell, my family doesn't give a shit about me, so I don't really care about them. My daughter can wear whatever she wants I guess. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this way though.
If there's grass, play ball. If there are tricks to make the guys come out to play ball, ie, milkshakes, thongs, etc. then so be it.
I DO however, have to agree with objection to the younger girls 16- wearing clothing that's way too revealing though. Just makes it harder for the disgusting pedos that run around to resist doing bad things.

I agree with you to a point. A lot of girls nowadays are leaving nothing to the imagination.
I believe in dressing comfortably, appropriate to the occassion (ie. weather) and to highlight your attributes.
The whole no jeans, t-shirt thing is slightly extreme though. There are times where the whole dressing feminine get-up isn't entirely functional.

This is off-topic, but you really should love your family more. If you love them, they'll start to love you back. Everyone will be much happier that way. Just keep in mind that love doesn't mean giving them what they want.
I think that different people have different ideas of 'sexy' and not everyone should dress the same, weather the style is slutty or not. I can understand why some would want to show off a lot of skin and I can also understand why others wouldn't. I'm more annoyed with the really young girls (5-7, maybe?) wearing mini skirts and sweatpants with writing on the butt. No one should be 'dressing sexy' until they can comprehend what sexy is.
I think everyone should go back to wearing 19th century clothing.
Clothes may be a bit revealing on really young girls. I've seen 7 year olds dressed like they were strippers. I don't see anything wrong with it when you're a teen or older. I'd rather see a good looking girl in hot clothing than something that looks like it's from the 16th century.
Hey, I'm not on trial here. Don't ask.
Everyone should dress like anime cosplayers.

That's quite an assumption you made there.
I'm scared of actual paedophiles getting boners and abducting children.
We're all pedophiles. We just try to surpress this by making children dress in an unappealing manner. Now that this trend is reversing, we're all freaking out. The whole pedophile witchunt going on today is because we're all realizing we're pedophiles and don't want to talk about it.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Pedophile trying to rationalize his actions so that he can live with himself.
Good job, you've succeeded in stagnating the discussion.

Guys, quit arguing. >>20 was right, guys in particular are tuned to go for the youngest girls possible, at least sexually. Emotionally it's a different story, but the purpose of life is to reproduce, not to play checkers together and talk about politics.

This argument debunks itself. If we're talking about evolutionary psychology (which I personally disagree with), we're going to talk about men seeking out the sexual partner most fit for their evolutionary needs. You state that men seek out the youngest possible partner; what we can assume from this statement is that you suggest men look for a partner they can breed with most often, and are most likely not already with another mate. However, we must consider another aspect to human mating choices: childrearing. If humans are by nature monogamous creatures, we live as a family unit; two mating partners raise their offspring cooperatively. By examining past societal trends, we can see that the female partner generally bears the brunt of this task. However, considering a younger child - how could a child know how to, or even have the responsibility to, raise another child? Offspring therefore would be more likely to die in the hands of a younger partner. Continually reproducing with a young partner to have a high rate of mortality of the children is inefficient. Aside from this specific task, other aspects that we have learned to seek out in mates (and yes, an emotionally stimulating partner IS one of them) could not be accomplished by a younger partner; mostly due to lack of maturity or physical frailness. Therefore, considering that menopause hits for most women around 45 - 50, under optimum conditions, men would looks for a partner around 25, young enough to have a multitude of children, and old enough to properly raise them. In past times this number may have been skewed slightly lower due to environmental factors, but recent studies have shown that the onset and closure of mental and physical development begin and end later than in the past.
I think it's somewhat due to media saturation. Today's 7-year old wants to emulate pop stars. And Pop stars dress like whores, to put it bluntly. So when a kid hears a song on the radio, and maybe sees the show (via MTV or VH1) they see a woman wearing very little clothing. So they decide that's the "cool" way to dress. They whine and moan about having to wear "uncool" cloths, so that Mommy buys at Gap kids.
One more reason to not own a TV.
It's modern culture. Western society [well, all societies i can think of] favours those who conform to it's culture, and the culture dictates that revealing clothing be worn.
The solution? Reject the bad points of the culture.
Fuck that. I want my girls in as little clothing as possible. You guys need to take psychology 101.
It doesn't matter if it's a little or a lot, as long as it's either quick to take off, or arousing to take off.
>>32
Psychology, huh? Let's talk desensitization and acclimation...
Personally, I think it's not just what you show off, but what you don't. Subtle titillation is becoming a dead art; crank it up to 11, ladies.
I miss the society where knee length skirts were the only socially acceptable dress for girls, it is more feminine, and more classy than what is worn nowadays.
I think in general the changes in female fashion are indicators of the way in which our society is heading, skirts are slowly going out of style, except as a means (with really short cuts) to expose the underwear more often, this is because women are no longer comfortable with the responsibility of being a woman following the sexual revolution, they don't want to deal with the consequences of wearing skirts and dresses, be they behavioral, thermal, or merely symbolic.
> By examining past societal trends, we can see that the female partner generally bears the brunt of this task.
"Sexy is not about showing it all off, sexy is about mystery."
Hot women look hot in skimpy clothing or in regular (nice fitting yet covering skin) clothing
"average" women can look hot in regular clothing but not in skimpy clothing. I would prefer to go into a bar and see that every woman has a sense of style/fashion without feeling the need to show as much flesh as possible.

Still, what you can see will turn you on; what you'd want to see will make you crazy.
you were going through her draws?

wow truly revolutionary words, not redundant at all.
I didn't say I was being revolutionary. How is that redundant?
My favourite part of the female body is the nape of the neck anyway. Even if the girl is in really heavy clothing it's very possible for that part to be visible enough to get my attention.
I think chicks that dress slutty are disgusting. Dressing in the manner also tells a lot about you.
Yes.
'designers' have gotten lazier and lazier over the centuries. They just use the beauty of the human body as an excuse for being uncreative.
>>27
Doth protest too much, amirite.
The real problem is not just girls wearing more-revealing type clothing... it's the kind of girls doing it.
If a girl has a fit, slim body and can wear something ('slutty' or not) and make it LOOK GOOD, then it's not really that big of a deal because she has something to show off, at least.
Still think so.
After reading what >>3 said, I'm tempted to go out and buy some hold ups myself, heh. I've been slowly trying to add more skirts to my wardrobe. I find them much more comfortable, and they give off a nice vibe towards others.
Never underestimate the power of a black turtleneck.
