I first tried the stuff at a Japanese restaurant in Ann Arbor, MI. Don't remember what flavor, but I didn't like it at all. That was six or so years ago, and I came across the stuff at a Thai restaurant a few weeks ago in Arlington, TX. I know it enjoys popularity around the World, so what the Hell. Tropical fruit like mango or papaya. Still didn't like it.

Flavor: Taro, coconut or Thai tea. I'm not a fruity guy.

Place: Anywhere, but I try to stick to specialty shops (like Quickly.) Restaurants that just offer bubble tea on the side sometimes have disgusting tapioca. Possibly >>2's complaint.

I agree with >>3 bubble tea from specialty shops taste much better than whats sold at normal restaurants.

What exactly do you guys mean by "specialty shops"? I've never heard of Quickly, either.

Stores where their main product is bubble teas. Quickly is a Taiwanese chain of stores that sells Bubble teas and some other stuff.

Chinese bakeries also make good bubble tea. My friends prefer to get their tea from a Chinese bakeries.

It seems that all of the good bubble tea vendors in the US are on the West coast. Oh well, I prefer gin tonics anyways.

Hong Kong Market in Algiers, LA has a bubble tea joint in it.

So far my favorite is durian and soursop with lychee jellies.

The delightful aftertaste of musky old cat poop really isn't as bad as you might think, and it's a refreshing change from avocado and coconut.
