DS Games (35)

Konnichiwa minna.

I am a new owner of a DS (black), and I am just wondering what games you guys recommend. I have been browsing at local stores, but the only ones that I find interesting are Mario and Final Fantasy. Any input would be great.

Sayonara! Arigato gozaimasu!

Just a weeaboo tip: "Sayounara" is more of a "farewell" than a casual "bye", so you shouldn't use it if you plan to be back here soon. As for gaming tips, I suggest the Ace Attorney games, though not owning a DS myself I've never personally played them.

Second weeaboo tip: Randomly inserting japanese into your text gets real annoying real fast.

I also suggest the Ace Attorney games, especially if you were raised on the old Sierra/Lucasarts adventures. Another must-have is Elite Beat Agents. Even if the tracklist doesn't suit your tastes on the surface, the cover bands used in the game improve on a lot of them, and the story bits push it squarely into the realm of AWESOME. You can also import Ouendan 1 or 2 if you're so inclined.

Just because I insert Japanese into my message doesn't mean anything. You guys hang around here too, so what does that say about you?

But thank you for the recommendations, I will definitely check them out.

Arigato

Better yet, why say bye anyways? People never ask for something and say "See ya" after their question.

Anyways, Phoenix Wright is amazing. Go for Castlevania games also (I liked DoS more than PoR). Trauma Center is also great, along with MOST first party titles.

Another vote for Ace Attorney. I also highly enjoy Kirby Canvas Curse but that's because I am a master of speed in that game. Squeak Squad just wasn't as good.

Also Dokidoki Majo Shinpan is now out if you want something fucked up to import.

Get EBA and/or Ouendan. Anybody who says EBA's soundtrack sucks is a dumbass weeaboo. I've never played Ouendan.

arigato LOL THAT MEANS THANK YOU IN JAPANESE LOL

I've played both Ouendan (friends) and EBA (mine), beat both, etc.

EBA's soundtrack is ***LEAPS AND BOUNDS*** above Ouendans.

You're supposed to say "Ja mata" but only when speaking to somebody who only knows Japanese.

11 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2007-07-09 06:34 ID:uzFTRdKy

I found Ouendan 1's songs more generally enjoyable than EBA's. But Ouendan 2's sucked. IMO.

Band Brothers is good too, but it's all MIDI so a lot of people will say that the music in that game sucks. I still enjoy it for the gameplay, and the fact that you can make your own songs in there.

12 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2007-07-09 09:47 ID:Heaven

Ouendan's music>shitty emo music

I advise buying an R4DS. Look it up.

13 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2007-07-09 13:44 ID:uzFTRdKy

R4DS is decent.

But slot 2 flash cards have their use too (e.g. emulating a GBA ROM full of Band Brothers tracks, or even playing GBA stuff.)

I plan to buy a slot 2, so that I can keep the current game I'm playing in the real slot, and so that I can copy savegames to/from my cart and hack friends' savegames.

I'm liking Puzzle League at the moment- daily play, puzzle mode, time attack etc.

Anyone have Picross? How's the downloadable content?

From what I've heard, Doki Doki Majo Shinpan will only disappoint you. Even if you're the kind of raging paedophile this thing is aimed at, the actual witch-touching segments are apparently extremly brief, and the rest is dialogue.

seconded

Oh and regarding EBA/Ouendan, get whichever one of the three is cheapest, then if you think it's awesome (you will) get the rest. I'm not a fan of Japanese music, unlike most of the people who hang out these boards, and I still think Ouendan 1 and 2 are awesome.

There are slot1 flash cards, too... look out for "DS Linker"...

The R4DS is a slot 1 flash card. I was saying that slot 2 cards also have their uses.

20 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2007-07-17 20:45 ID:xYUdx3Fd

Best of both worlds with teh cards:
Get an R4 for slot one, which will do just about any homebrew worth using (only the crappy stuff hasn't been updated for DLDI). And it does DS roms better than anything else around, pretty much. Price ~ $45.
And for GBA roms and DS web browser, get an EZFlash 3-in-1 expansion. It's DS Lite sized, so it obviously won't work with DS phat. There is a homebrew that you must get which makes it both read in English and work with R4. This app is by some guy named Rudolph or something similar. There's info around; look it up more yourself. Price ~ $20.

Slot two cards are expensive (Around $70 - 80) and they don't work with all roms. If all you want is DS, stick with R4. But if you want GBA as well, you might as well get the expansion thing. It works real nice, and depending on what you have to pay for shipping, it can be cheaper than getting M3 Perfect Lite or similar product.

And while everyone is talking about Ouendan and EBA, I like Ouendan better just because I happen to hate most punk, hip hop, and motown, which includes pretty much every song. And Cher. Putting her crap on there really did not help. Ouendan, on the other hand, had stuff that I did not recognize and was too busy playing to learn to hate. But if I actually listened to J-pop, my opinion may have been different. All I know is that once Ouendan 2 came out, EBA went right off teh R4 card. Haven't played it since.

Harvest Moon DS(assuming you're able to get your hands on the European version and DS isn't region restricted), Animal Crossing Wild Wolrd, FF3, Metroid Prime: Hunters, Super Mario 64 DS (assuming you don't have it for VC or 64).

In actual factual I also want to use the thing to hack savegames. So whatever I get will need to support accessing slot 1 while booting from slot 2. I was originally planning to get a Supercard because there is some software for that thing specifically for doing this sort of thing.

It would appear that Ms. >>1 doesn't understand the nature of an anonymous messageboard. Especially with regard to, you know, "my messages".

How delicious is the irony then, that she would sprinkle weeanese all over her messages on a board whose format has been aped from the far east.

Get Hotel Dusk. It's an amazing detective game with a storyline that's got some of the best dialogue I've had the pleasure of reading. If you've got online, definitely go for Mario Kart DS. When it comes out, I also suggest Bleach: Blade of Fate for the DS. It's made by a cult developer called Treasure Co. Ltd. and it's a fighting game with Wi-Fi and game-sharing, so you can play with anyone you know who has a DS. Mario Kart DS also has Wi-Fi and game-sharing.

FFXII: Revenant Wings is confirmed for the DS.

Hmmm.. You should proally get Megaman Star Force! It's a really really good game. Although, you should also Get Jump: Ultimate stars, it's a pretty good game, but takes a looooong time ta get used to. But oh! Maybe you might wanna wait for Maple Story then? I have no clue how it's gonna be like, but it sounds interestin'.

And if you're willing to wait for a LOOOONG while, get Final Fantasy Tactics A2! Hehe. Like tactics advance.. But two! ^_^

Hope it helps.

I also recently got a DS, I choose Pokemon Diamond as my first game. It's really nice. And for my second game I choose Megaman ZX. That's a must-get.

Any Slot-2 card that supports DLDI is now capable of doing that sort of thing, thanks to this homebrew software:
http://www009.upp.so-net.ne.jp/rudolph/nds/NDS_Backup/

I believe the wifi version is also compatible with Slot-1 cards though, it transfers the files via ftp to a computer on the wireless network

30 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2007-08-22 14:03 ID:uzFTRdKy

Since I don't spend 100% of my life locked in my room (and thus on the wireless network) I will probably go with the Slot-2 card option.

Phoenix Wright.

Advance Wars DS rocked. That is to say, it was really nice.

Playing through the first translated Phoenix Wright game, well... I was kind of disappointed how the writers dip into "magic" every now and then. It's like admitting that you can't really carry the story any further without resorting to the trapdoor option.

yeah, I'm into the last case of the third game, and although I love the series I really hope the fourth abandons all this spirit channeling bollocks.

Is that the mahjong game? Or is it the witch mark one?

Now now. All cases occur in their own world, and you have to immerse yourself in that world in order to have a fair trial.
