Hello there fellow gamers! I was out yesterday evening and stopped by a garage sale. I decided to browse and came across a Super Nintendo. I've never played a game other than the ever-popular Pac-Man and Space Invaders at the arcade.

I decided to buy it along with the only game there, Chrono Trigger . I have yet to play it however.

Anyway, as a proud, new owner of a Super Nintendo, what games are a must have?

Chrono Trigger is one of the best SNES RPG.
Try to get Starfox, if you like dragon ball : Dragon Ball Z - Super Butoden 3, Dragon Ball Z : Hyper dimension, final fantasy VI (this one, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_VI ), and of course zelda and mario.

Super Metroid, Illusion of Gaia, Super Mario RPG

however, most of those will be pretty hard to find - especially at garage sales. Pawn shops are a great place to look. try and find games Like "Super Mario World" which there are a billion of, or Super Mario Allstars. Pilotwings, Mario Kart, etc etc. there really aren't many "bad" SNES games. you're genrally encouraged to buy as many as you can while people are still selling them.

failing that, i guess you could download and "demo" some snes roms.

Hrm- Super Aleste (Space Megaforce), Cybernator (Assault Suits Valken) and Metal Warriors would get my vote.

If you're in Europe get Parodius and Pop'n Twinbee, they're two of the best shooters for the system.

EarthBound.

> there really aren't many "bad" SNES games

I think your opinion here is distorted by the lens of nostalgia. There were endless bad games, perhaps you just don't remember or never played them.

Yeah, you're right, there. I guess I just don't really think of those "bad" games, because to me it's so obvious which ones are bad at a glance that they don't even register. There were many fantastic games, however.

Try some of the Fire Emblems. It's hard finding translation patches that don't have a shitload of errors, but they're well worth the effort.

I also highly recommend the loosely tied "trilogy" of Soulblazer, Illusion of Gaia (Illusion of Time, if you're in the UK.), and Terrangima. EVO the search for Eden is also a good find.

I liked Battletoads in Battlemaniacs too, but the difficulty curve is so messed up in that game... the first level is the hardest.

I recommend Cybernator and Super Castlevania IV.

22 Name: Anonymous Gamer : 2007-08-31 15:24 ID:Len+0hom

>>22 Keep in mind that this person hasn't played anything besides Pac Man and Space invaders. Based on the information presented, I don't see how you can even suggest some of those titles. Great games? Maybe. But they're all really deep and involved for someone who hasn't played games before, and they're complexity might be a bit intimidating.

That being said, you can probably enjoy some of the shooters that were put out on the SNES. Gradius III and R-Type were already mentioned, but I'd like to add U.N Squadron to my list, at that was my personal fave at the time. Theres platforming games too, like the infamous Super Mario World, or even better, seek out Super Mario All Stars.
