360 vs PS3, accessory costs? (5)

So I'm thinking about getting one of these here "next-gen consoles," and I'm wondering just how much I should be looking at for costs. Thus far I know the 360 Premium is about $300 and the PS3 is about $400. What I'm wondering is what other crap I should include. Here's what I have so far:

360: $300
VGA cable: $38 (I don't have an HDTV, but a monitor should be fine)
Dual-layer DVD burner: $25

PS3: $400

Here's where things start to come apart. I know very little about the PS3's capabilities or requirements. What do I need? And am I missing anything for the 360?

Get the 360.
It seems like you are going to be pirating the games, for which it is currently not possible on the PS3.
Either way 360 is cheaper and has more exclusives (especially jRPGs)

The 360 doesn't play blu-ray, which is going to be the next de facto media choice. Also, the PS3 has MGS4. The thing is a beast when you look at the specs. It is pretty lame that new games cost $60 but I make good money so w/e

Blu-ray killed the HD-DVD the same way that VHS killed the BetaMax and DVD killed the LaserDisc. Within the next year, the price of HD-TVs and Blu-ray players ought to fall within the price range of the average consumer. Blu-ray burners should follow fairly shortly after.

Or do you not remember the days that DVD players cost over a thousand dollars and burners cost thousands?

Think about it. HD is becoming standard even among national broadcast viewing. What current media standard is capable of playing HD movies and hasn't been axed by it's parent company. Really, designing media standards is kind of old hat for Sony. The floppy disk, the CD, etc.
