I'm curious, why is it that not many people use names here?

Because it's the idea behind this type of BBS. You don't use a name so that identity issues do not cloud communication.

If people start using names, soon there will be old participants, and newbies, social networks, peer pressure, etc.

Plenty of other BBS allow this in the internet, 4ch gives you the chance of doing things in a different way.

You can speak your opinions about yourself or what you liken/dislike without worries, because nobody cares who you are. Also, people who reply to you will do it because it's of interest for them, not to maintain their reputation.

It's an anti-reputation system, with interesting advantages and disadvantages,...

Chill, will you?

I have finally understood today. I apologize for my ignorance. May I ask one more question? What does the ID: represent?

10 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-11 20:43 ID:3QrY6zrE

It always remains the same, is this not the same as someone knowing who I am?

11 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-11 20:44 ID:3QrY6zrE

or is it only within the same thread?

12 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-11 21:01 ID:Ccm3Yhk7

>>11

Spot on. It's quite practical.

13 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-11 21:13 ID:3QrY6zrE

Yes I understand. It does help remembering who said what within the thread but not subject them to being known in others.

14 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-11 22:16 ID:iJfiruwr

The ID code gets refreshed every 24 hours or so.
I don't know if it's necessary, but it does keep people from spamming a whole monologue conversation or creating clone-supporters in a single day.

2ch and 4chan don't seem to need it, but they have more users, so threads don't stick around as long and the potential damage poses less of a problem.

Actually, the ID code is not influenced by the time, unless you have a dynamic IP address.

16 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-12 07:01 ID:Ccm3Yhk7

>>15

Correct. I posted in this thread yesterday, and, unless my IP magically changed overnight (which it shouldn't have), my ID should be recognisable.

Note that putting "sage" in the email field does, amongst other things, hide your ID.

18 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-12 18:21 ID:J9Xrf2oA

>>17
doesn't it make your ID "Heaven" or something?

19 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-12 18:22 ID:Heaven

did I do it right?

20 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-12 21:20 ID:Heaven

Well if you're going to give him a warning lets at least let him know he needs lurk and I mean a lot before posting.

21 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-13 11:30 ID:3dpjDh9o

>>20
who cares. as long as he doesn't bump dead topics with something not outstanding, let him post.

22 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-13 14:39 ID:ukf4KRMn

>>15
Then what is it influenced by?

My ID changes every few days or so.

But my IP changed every few days or so.

Because we know each other by their words

by that moment

by that meaning

26 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-14 13:42 ID:Heaven

We need no names.

27 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-14 14:36 ID:Heaven

>>24

That's. The. Fucking. Point.

28 Post deleted.

29 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-15 03:52 ID:Heaven

>>27
So my point is that ID is influenced by time.

30 Name: Anonymous : 2007-11-16 03:46 ID:Heaven

>>29

Your ID being influenced by your IP and your IP being influenced by time is NOT the same as the ID directly being influenced by time, moran.

Not everyone has a dynamic IP, ergo you should shut up.

Fine, if you want to be so anal about it:
If you have a dynamic IP, your ID is influenced by time.
