Enter "tripcode#tripcode" is the name field. You should get the same exact name and code as this post, but with a different ID. Try it.

Trip codes are persistent. IDs remain the same only for the individual thread, and they also change after a period of time. They exist so people can't do stupid things like argue with themselves.
Sage hides your ID (making it Heaven).

The ID that a poster uses depends on the thread they are posting under and the IP address that they use at that point in time. If the poster's IP address changes over time, their ID will also change over time.

What I've always wanted to know is, does the site have the full IP address for each post stored somewhere in the database, or does it only store the ID and the IP block which the address came from?

On the original 2channel, I've heard that the IP address is only logged in plaintext for the first post in a thread.

The ID is obviously some kind of hash of a thread ID and an IP address. And that means the admin ostensibly can't just extract the IP address from the ID. But, given a specific thread and a selection of possible IP addresses, could he tell whether that post came from that IP address?

Also, why does sage hide the ID?

Failing that, if you know the algorithm, the salt and the thread-ID, in the worst case you could brute-force the IP address. I mean there are only 2^32 possible values, that won't take very long to iterate. Think of it as cracking a four-character password.
