Thou seest how young people go together into vanity, and old people into the earth; thou must forsake all, young and old, keep out of all, and be as a stranger unto all.

I remember reading about this way back in the day and marveling at how bizarre yet slightly humanistic this was. I dunno if I'd ever want to host a guest myself, but it doesn't sound that bad.

You can buy and roast your own coffee for a fraction of the price of buying pre-roasted coffee.

All you do is buy unroasted coffee from a website (google is your friend), and buy a hot-air popcorn popper. Take the coffee- at least one cup- place it into the popper and run it for about 1 minute and 15 seconds. You'll have to figure out how well roasted you like your coffee, and how the popper roasts (I imagine they are all a bit different), so it's a just a simple matter of trial and error. BUT, buying unroasted coffee will only set you back just about 5 dollars a pound usually (plus shipping of course, but if you buy in bulk, you more than justify the shipping cost), as opposed to 10 or 12 dollars a pound.

In addition to the price, there is one more benefit: Freshly roasted coffee tastes so much better than coffee that's been sitting in a store for several days or weeks.

Also, one more thing: There's a 24 hour (more or less) taste-maturing period you ought to wait through after roasting, for maximum quality (I'm not exaggerating when I say it is better than anything you can get from a normal grocery store). That's more of a preference however, you can certainly grind it and strain it right after roasting if you like, and it will still taste very good.

Just remember to roast it OUTSIDE, or at least next to an open window, since the process creates a bit of smoke.
