Juan Carlos Cruz, who was one of the three abuse survivors who met the Pope in private earlier this month, said some of Chile’s bishops sought to depict him as a pervert and used his sexuality to try to discredit him.

“Juan Carlos, that you are gay does not matter,” he said Pope Francis told him. “God made you like this and loves you like this and it doesn’t matter to me. The Pope loves you like this, you have to be happy with who you are.”
