Future of Textboards (and imageboards) (23)

I've browsed imageboards for longer than I'd like to admit, and I don't see them really going anywhere. 4chan is less active than it was in its heyday, and 8chan is slow and scares away most people who aren't... really fucking weird? Also the mod is an insane megalomaniac dictator who treats users terribly.

It's the mid-nineties design philosophy I come here for!

The design philosophy is okay. It just needs to be masterfully implemented.

What is it about the future of textboards that interest you Lucy?

Does anyone switch styles though? I love 2ch's style for textboards.
Rather, old 2ch, now that they changed the design to look more modern (and completely failed at it). Thanks 8chan!

I don't like this outlook.

Discord replacing IRC I'm surprisingly prepared to accept, even though I really should be more concerned about the displacement of an open standard. But losing dedicated forums in favour of subreddits is nightmarish. Partially for concerns over centralisation, partially for other formatting reasons.

A good post. I think part of the reason I hung around so long, on 4chan and various other sites, is hoping for a return to how they used to be; but the time has passed and they're different now - all the sites that stayed the same have died.
