Weeaboo... they just want to be Japanese, or any Asian is okay? (140)

1 Name: Anonymous Enthusiast : 2007-07-26 02:03 ID:bJ1eQ2eE

I have always wondered about that. It seems like some weeaboo only wants "authentic" Japanese things, ie Japanese girls, Japanese music, and Japanese people to be friends with, while others seem like they'll take anything/anyone that is Asian. This guy I know is dating a Chinese girl, and he's weeaboo. So, does it depend on the individual weeaboo? Or will they accept all things Asian (Japanese being the best)?

>>98 I find holes to most of those objections.

But before one other suggestion. If one is to reform Japanese spelling, the most sensible idea is to use roman letters, this would make Japanese more compatible with the western world to which Japan aspires to (managed to?) belong. Just imagine where Japan would be technologically if they didn't spend the better half of the last century figuring out how to write on a keyboard.

This was even proposed by Japanese scholars http://bit.ly/a4F8Ym [wikipedia] (hint: it didn't catch up)

No, my objections, first: tone is easily expressed by diacritical marks, second: in such a system words would be separated by spaces duh!

The problem of the preponderance of homophones is the big problem here but let me remind you that Japanese actually speak this language! With sounds! They don't carry around signs like Genma just so they can chat.

I have the theory that if a language lets you say something using you mouth, it would also let you say the same thing with a phonetic writing system, which is essentially a program for reproducing an uttered sentence.

For me, a weeabo is someone that has an unhealthy obsession with Japanese culture. They are delusional and see Japanese as some kind of perfect world. They can only speak in broken Japanese and usually throws random Japanese words into the conversation. A weeabo dislikes or absolutely detests their own race. Everything that is not Japanese is wrong, evil, and stupid. When you're in a presence of a weeabo it is painfully obvious and they try to shove what little they know of Japan down your throat. So basically everything is excessive. If you're a person who likes to learn about different cultures and can distinguish between reality and fantasy, you're not a weeabo. You're a rational, sane person who wants to enjoy life and expand your horizons.

Conversely, there can be a Japanese or Korean person who wants to be American and obsesses over it. I've seen it all and it's ugly. I don't know how to describe these people who obsesses over another culture. When you talk to them, something seems off about them. Almost like talking to someone mentally unstable, which I guess some are.

What annoys me is when a weeabo writes 'kawaii', 'desu', etc in a Kpop fandom, or other Asian. If you're in a non-Japanese forum, don't write in Japanese and at that only random five words you know. It's not gonna impress anyone. I don't think a weeabo just applies to Japanese culture. I can see the same annoying stupidity with people obsessing over Korean culture. I told a person how Korea really is. Not all rainbows and sunshine. He/she got really mad at me and called me a liar lol. True facts you can easily search on the internet and from a Korean person and he/she throws a hissy fit and calls me a liar.

Here's a website I found that I think explains what a weeabo is well: http://ambivalen.wordpress.com/2010/10/14/weeaboo-ism/

This thread started in 2007 so I don't think anyone else might read this lol, but I hope whoever wants to know what a weeabo is, is more enlightened by my post.

Oh dear lord that person and their friends are weaboo. A weaboo, in my opinion, is a Japanophile who is a Japanophile simply because of what is popularly exposed of the culture. One who doesn't know themself or care where they are headed in life, and take on a sort of "Japanese" identity to relate to simply because they do not have a grip of themselves. They do not understand Japanese, Japan, their culture, how it differs in the ancient or modern from other major Asian countries (say, China and Korea - not even Singapore, Taiwan, the Philippines) and accept something simply because it is Japanese.

I find this hillarious. Do you seriously think everyone who watches anime is a weeboo/wapanese? Thats so stupid. Have you seen girls in Japan who dress in Gyaru and Gal fashion? And its okay for them to dye their hair blonde, wear contacts and dress in 'western' clothes? And its not okay for non-asians to do that? Hm, yeah, okay. And Japanese people who listen to non-Japanese music? Thats okay? Maybe your a weeaboo for thinking that. Some people seriously need to get over what other peoples intrests are and get on with their own lives. It's pathetic.

Otaku are simple fans of acomic series or Television show that happens to be Japanese.
Without the otaku, 2ch would have never existed and 4-ch probably wouldn't be here today.
So you owe us a lot.

Some people arent taking what a weeaboo is srsly. Saying "Weeaboos are only people who think Japan is a magical wonderland" is a lie. Go onto deviantart and tell me there arent any weeaboos. I dare you.
There are loads of people that know japan isnt all shinyshinydesu but are still weeaboos.
Also if you want to move to japan to become a famous "mangaka" good luck. The only jobs you can get in Japan are jobs the japanese cant do or wont do. And trust me, I am sure there are people in japan who are a lot more experienced and better trained than your disproportionate, triangle headed, crappy shinykawaiidesu animu.
PS. I cant stand people who like Yaoi. I am sorry but that is the biggest piece of shit to come out of Japan since... Well, ever. If you like Yaoi, you are at the top of the heirarchy of dumbasses and deserve to be chucked into the deepest pits of hell.

TL;DR Weeaboos suck and need to be shot

@104 blablabla
The link you posted was informative. I agree with the article, I do learn Chinese Mandarin plus other dialects like Cantonese and Hokkien,Bahasa Malaysia(Malay),(those 2 languages on the right I don't learn as much I guess sort of placed on my to-do list) Korean and Japanese I do learn about cultures and history if I ever go to a country I don't want to offend them and be an ignorant person that sometimes leads to sterotyping. As they say languages are easier to learn when you're younger. Career options are increased when you know more languages if it's required.I read and watch manga and anime I don't sprinkle the language I'm speaking with Japanese for example, "konnichiwa, sugoi" etc. Not everyone has the time to sit around and wait until the TV show they want to airs on TV. I have better things to do. I'm an overseas Chinese an Australian Born Chinese to be exact. Even though my parents native tongue is Cantonese and Hokkien they really didn't know Mandarin that well because they were born in Malaysia and their parents did not speak it. I'm in the same situation but a family friend teaches me. I would like to ask a question if your username was like Xue means Snow in Chinese Mandarin would you be considered weaboo/otaku? To me I don't think so my real name is a full Chinese name I don't consider on aquiring an English name even though my name has been made fun of by people(racists) and poorly pronounced. To all the people aspiring to be a mangaka no offense I think it's frankly quite stupid because I think people prefer their manga to be made by the Japanese who have proper training. I really hate how people come up to me and say "can you speak Japanese?" and I say I'm Chinese. Even worse is when I say I'm Chinese they say "Isn't it the same language as Japanese?" People who think anyone with black hair is the same their wrong! China has influenced Korea and Japan as Anonymous Enthusiast has already stated by part of their writing kanji and hanja. I fail to understand why people choose Japan and Korea as the best while China and Taiwan are a behind. If you don't like China an alternative could be Taiwan there's TV dramas I know people say their corny yes, some are but not all and if you're learning Chinese Mandarin most of the dramas I have seen have Chinese subtitles you can learn a lot trust me it's from personal experience. A misconception is that Chinese Mandarin is difficult so many characters to learn and traditional and simplified which to learn. I learn both traditional and simplified so it doesn't really matter or at least be able to recognise but I mostly learn Traditional mostly and first because the family friend who teaches me is from Taiwan and I learn simplified on my own.

Anonymous Ethusiast do you frown upon anime fansubbing and manga scanlation? I'm just curious. I dislike Yaoi too plus others like Yuri, shounen Ai, shoujo Ai, Ecchi, Hentai and Smut As you can see I don't like sexually explicit content. Never read them never will.

I'm half-white & half-Latin. I love anime, I love to draw it, & yes, I listen to some Asian music (usually from the anime I watch). But I am no weeaboo. I just like anime, that's it!

Trying to be something that you are not is just stupid!
Also, I hate Asian cunts who think they "smart" just because they are Asian. Those Asians need to fucking die!!!

I know that i'm going off topic with this post, but i'm going to say this anyway.

I find it that weaboos are actually pretty okay if they want to be Japanese or what, as long as they keep their stuff to themselves and their fellow weaboos without annoying or insulting others in the process.

They like Anime, Hentai, J-musics and girls, fine, it's their right and freedom anyway. Plus i found it ridiculous that people that wants to be Japanese are called dumbfucks. The one who says it is a goddamn hypocrite. I do not believe that there's a person in this world who would say that he's fully content of what he is, every single one of us must have wished that we are born in a different form. It's just a matter of how they can actually accept the reality or not.

Honestly i found them having much more values as human beings than those who can only fuss and flame about others' preferences .

And this is coming from a person who likes anime and manga, who likes draw them and dreams of having it as a profession as well, but only watching and reading them once in a while, and likes Linkin Park and American Movies as well. I try to appreciate every single cultures in this world, as long as no harm is done.

I live in Japan, married to a Japanese woman, working as a Japanese-English translator in the finance biz, and I had never heard of a weaboo until yesterday! Of course, I don't watch anime, maybe that's why.

I just think is is hilarious that I have the kind of life that a weaboo dreams of and have never thought twice about it. Japan is just a country same as any other.

130 Name: Anti-Weeaboo : 2012-07-15 23:49 ID:1iPdmUi2

80% of you folks on this board are plain retarded. 10% of you are just outright dumbasses. There are a scant 10% of people who actually have an idea what being a weeaboo is without being one. 50% of the 80% are actually weeaboos by the way.

Saying someone who reads writes and all delves into jap crap is automatically weeaboo is like saying historians whose expertise lies in research of the NSDAP (aka Nazi by commonfolk today) political machine is automatically a Nazi. That person might even like reading and listening to Nazi stuff from that era, because it is simply intriguing. But it is totally possible to not want to BE a Nazi.

Even for nonJap Asians in their native countries, where of course anime is more prevalent than it is in the West, it is possible to like watching anime as children and grow up with it, but not be a hopeless asstard that is Weeaboo. Quite a few of these 80s early 90s kids grew up with Dragonball series. You don't see them wanting a sugoi kawaii desu waifu and jacking off to anime characters, nor do you see them think Jap culture is interesting.

By the fucking way, if folks in the West have wapanese, there is quite a lot of underlying white-wannabes in Japan. And no, this is not widespread in Asia. It's only Japan and possible minor spread of this sentiment to neighboring countries. Wanna know why? Read a fucking history book for once to find out.

So what ppl are obsessed with japan. Everyone's obsessed with something in their life. And if u aren't then ur life sucks. It's just facts of life everyone has goals and sometimes create them without seeing the whole picture. Yes yes I'm obsessed with Asian culture and I know Japan isn't as awesum as I see it on the Internet through the j dramas or j pop stars but why do ppl wanna be assholes and say oh they are just anime obsessed star wars fans. What's that supposed to mean? What's wrong with star wars? What's wrong with liking Asian media on all levels extremity? Whats wrong with anme porn? U know what's the problem? Is having society brainwashed by negative jerk offs, thinking that people like things other than sports, and mainstreamed crap are nerdy and repulsive freaks. That ppl should stick to their own ethnicities and countries norms. Stupid haters u only hate weeaboos because u hate ur self and are too shame to try new things outside of what ur friends and family do.

I don't mind liking another culture. I like to read about other cultures, and I think some of them are better than American culture. I like Europe personally, but there's a point where it becomes ... just too much. I am American, and as much as i like James Bond, Dr. Who, and whatever else, I'm still American, and not British. I'm not really Bosnian because I know a few words and like Sarma. What bugs me about weeaboos is no their love of Japan, but their need to become Japanese, to ignore their own culture and their own country and so on to be more "Japanese".

I'm an American. I like Euro culture, especially of late Eastern Europe, but at the end of the day, I'm American, and I'm not going to pretend to be Polish or Russian or Bosnian or even British because it's a lie.
