Hey. I've just started crochet. I've made 2 shitty hacky-sacks, and I'm working on a hat (it's doing well). I don't know any of the terms and don't know any tricks or anything. Anyone know sites etc?

common crochet is fun and way more heterosexual than [i]knitting[/i]. Someone must know something. And if not, you could at least make fun of me a little :(

If you hit your local second-hand bookstore or op shop, there's sure to be some retro beginner crochet books that will have all the basic techniques and a few projects to get started on.

Get some inspiration from Craftster.org. It's a pretty good community.

A hat would be a little tricky. It's a little less elastic than a knit. So hopefully it does turn out okay!

Poi spinning is a hobby of mine, and I have been wanting to make a set of practice poi by crocheting some hacky-sack like balls (except a bit larger). Unfortunately, I haven't gotten around to doing this yet. Maybe sometime in the near future.

When I crochet, I just kind of do what I feel like doing, without really going by a pattern and just using whichever stitch(es) I feel like. If you're going to make a hat by this method, though, be careful.

My advice would be to learn the different stitches first, then go on to patterns and such if you want to.
