Hobbies and Fibromyalgia (22)

My boyfriend is an albino with Fibromyalgia, which basically means that his hands hurt so much that he can hardly use them. He also apparently has ADD. I would like to develop some hobbies to do with him, but his conditions limit what he is able to do. He can't go outside during the day, he can't hold things (like a controller), and he zones out a lot. We play D&D once a week, but he can never pay attention so the DM always gets mad at him, and I tend to have to roll his dice for him anyway, due to his hands. I like to walk at night, but he is extremely out of shape and can't even walk half a mile without getting out of breath. I tried to get him into card games (Yu-Gi-Oh, Spellfire, Magic, etc) but he gets bored with them very easily. I guess they take too much effort.

Does anyone know any hobbies that him and I could do, which don't involve him going outside, using his hands, or having to pay special attention to anything for hours on end? We've watched so many movies and TV shows over the past few months that I never want to be around a television again, so that's out. Any help is appreciated.

How about something with animals?
They're therapeutic, and they don't require any intricate movements, just petting and stuff.
If that won't work... how about karaoke or something? You all might not be avid singers, but that it only requires vocal strength and songs are pretty short, so...!

He has three cats, and we play with them sometimes. Although we both love them, it's nothing we could really make a hobby of.

Karaoke sounds like it might be fun. Thanks for the idea! I'll run it by him and see what he thinks.

There's only one thing that I know how to do well, and I've always been told that you always should do what you know how to do well...

OP here. This is a great idea! We're both book-worms and like to study things, especially relating to mythology. I bet stargazing would be a perfect hobby for us! I can't believe I didn't think of it before. We both even have telescopes already. It would be wonderfully romantic as well. Thanks so much for this idea!

I'm glad I helped. I am also into astronomy but I don't like to go by myself.

What kind of telescope do you have?

>>11 I have a Meade ETX-70AT. It's been collecting dust in my closet for the past 10 years. It's a very small telescope which sits on a round base and has a controller attached. You punch in what you would like to see (ie. Mars) and it will aim itself towards that target. I hope it still works!

The astronomy thing was fun, but we need something to do when it rains, and during the day. Any more ideas?

What do you mean? He's a good guy. I don't mind that he has his problems; I enjoy his company.

It was a play on words, sorry. I'm sure he's great - it sounds like it if you two can do these things together.

Cool. I have an ETX-80, but I don't use as much anymore.

As for hobbies when it's raining and what not?
Photography?

And that's be you, be what you're like.

And so I'm having a wonderful time but I'd rather be whistling in the dark.

Learn how to make webpages or program games, study languages, write books through dictation(using a computer program).

Someone made a mod for Half-Life 2 that lets disabled people play the game, all you have to do is press a single button at the correct time to play it.

>>20 That sounds awesome, I should deathmatch a disabled dude some time.

I made a Half-Life 2 mod for epileptics. It gives other players a weapon which does nothing but flash all the lights in the level on and off really fast.
