I've been to Heise's site and I've read the links but I do not understand how to solve the cube using this method. I've never solved the cube and I've been told this method is rather difficult for beginners but I don't like the other methods because I want to solve it properly rather than recite.

Or if anyone can suggest a similar method without memorising anything, I would really appreciate it.

When I was six years old, I figured out how to solve it; I just peeled off the stickers.
Is that cheating or is it 'thinking outside the box'?

Not possible, you have to memorize a few.
The more formulas you know, the faster you can solve the cube. But those are extras.
I memorized the least possible formulas and it took me about a minute on average.

Not necessary, if you turn a face 1/12 of a rotation, the corner pieces come out with hardly any force at all.
