For a nice introduction to smoking, I'd say start with relatively light cigarettes to get you used to the feeling of inhaling smoke. I like LM blue or Marlobro gold as a regular smoke, red Colt, Lucky Strike or Gitanes (filter!) for stronger stuff. Once you feel like trying other stuff, I recommend testing out roughly in order:

Fruit flavoured cigarettes (mango is great, these are very sweet)
Djarum Blacks for clove cigarettes (kretek)
Sweet cigarillos: Al Capone sweets (filter, dipped in cognac, plastic box)
Flavoured cigarillos (filtered) such as Black Stone cherry (vanilla is lame)
Not sweet cigarillos: Cafe Cremes (not mild, tin box)
Smallish cigars: Piano (senorita size, wood box) and Outback (ugly but tasty, mild, a nice vanilla taste)
If budget is not a problem, try a Romeo y Julieta number 2 or 3

I have not tried pipe tobacco but will probably once I get older. As for Sisha (hookah tobacco), I recommend trying a basic apple flavour - I can't get that exited about them anymore. If you smoke unfiltered things, invest in a short cigarette holder to prevent leaf parts from invading your mouth.

Happy smoking!
