Drawing, art help (7)

I've been drawing since god knows when, and I can say that I've developed as an artist in general. I took up things such as stenciling [tags, graffiti that guerrilla art shit] then I did monsters, and fantasy characters with machine arms etc. Back when anime was fresh and new in the USA [or not as mainstream] I started picking up the "anime" style of drawing- now

I wanted to learn some tips on how to do line art- traditionally and digitally. How I can expand my drawings in general, what kind of styles and techniques. Just the newer and recent things to improve my art in general.

Any suggestions are a great help.

Check out Conceptart.org

Check out the forums there and post your art. This is a very good way to improve. As an art student, I found the site extremely helpful.

But for starters, my advise would be, stay away from the anime style for now and learn basic human anatomy structure.

About the anime-style thing you're getting into. I myself was in despair the other day because of my drawing skillz. I was also on a forum where people tested me and said "try drawing some realism you weeaboo!" and it came to me that- I could no longer draw anything within my style. That i've lost my artistic identity with animu/mango style. Though some of my drawing styles in the past were influenced by anime.. now I can't even draw cartoon looking things without drawing the "huge" eyes and face without it looking too "animeish".

I suggest you to challenge yourself to drawing anything. Everyone can do anime/manga styles. No one has any character anymore and draws in their own "self" created styles... I'm working it up again and trying to establish my own identity.

Don't give up. We don't become geniuses over night. I'm not saying to give up the anime style. But also keep your styles in check...

you should really give up the anime style for now and concentrate on being able to draw all sort of things. I used to be an anime fan till i found out for myself that i couldn't draw anything else but pretty faces with big eyes and stuff like that. Just give different art a chance as well. Have you ever tried drawing a few boxes? when i first tried that it was really hard o.O
Oh well good luck!

Hey, same story, I picked up the anime style also, and I still love drawing in it. I've experimented with some other styles, including realistic, and found that they're okay. Something that really helped me broaden from the anime style is taking an art class at school. There's no way that you can survive in a drawing class with anime style, and I've found that I like drawing realistically as well. If you're not in school, many community art schools offer classes, which are good to take also.

Good luck! Something else that might help is just sit down and draw something near you. Even if it's just a spoon, or your kitchen table, anything to focus your skillz on.
