Places on the Web Similar to 4-ch - Friendly Chat Places! (26)

Hey guys, I really need some help.

My problem, in a nutshell, is that I have no friends.

Let me clarify, I do have friends, in fact I have a lot of friends. However, they're currently 8000 miles away. I've moved to a place where I don't know anyone, and all the people are retarded and shallow. I hate it here, and so I turn to the internet.

I found 4-ch about 10 months ago. I fell in love. I really love the place. I love the atmosphere. I love having a place to come and just chill or totally relax. It's simple and fun communication, with people who share my own semi-silly sense of humour, my own infatuation with Japanese culture, my own strange mix of joviality and affable mischieviousness. Above all, with people who, in the majority, seem intelligent, coherent and witty.

But alas! As I'm sure you know, 4-ch is sparesely populated, and while our numbers are growing, it is not yet the metropolis that it should be.

So, I ask you, my dearest e-friends, are there any places similar to this on the internet? Any messageboards, of any kind, or irc channels, or chat applets, or web communities or social networks with this kind of dynamic, with a friendly atmosphere, perhaps a dash of japanophilia, perhaps a touch of SJIS art, perhaps without those things but still friendly? Does such a place exist apart from here? Do similar places exist?

Thank you my friends.

try this place called 4CHON its like here but with pictures, they are nice, have a dynamic social network specialising in ALL fields, has ALOT of japophilia called "wiiaboo" (i dont get it either). But most of all they are the most friendly people on the world wide webular system

In my experience I've found that 4chan has a very low occurence of Japanophilia ...even on the Hentai board and such, there are few people who actually like Japan's culture and such.

Probably /a/ has the highest occurence of Japanophilia.

I can't help you with similar places to 4-ch. But I can give you this advice - don't assume that all the people where you live are retarded and shallow. Sure, maybe 99.9% of them are, but if you don't give up, eventually you'll find at least one person on your level. Moving to a new place sucks, I've done it quite a few times through my life. It might take a while to get accustomed, but it will happen eventually even if you don't expect it.

For me, it took 3 years to really find people that I connect with here. That's a really long time, but I was stubborn and refusing to move on with my life. Hopefully it won't take you that long to adjust. 3 years was how long it took for me to realize that the internet is great, but only to a point...

The end level. The internet has like no replayability whatsoever.

>>7 speaks the truth.

I look at people all the time and think they are arseholes and then find out that they like the same stuff I do. Usually they are the ones to introduce themselves or start a conversation, but hey.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I guess it's a bit daunting for me. I've also moved from a University city (well, I've moved from living on the actual University Campus) to a town with no University, so maybe I'm just getting this impression because I'm no longer SURROUNDED by college students.

I'm trying to find 'things to do' here where I live now. It's difficult, but I'll find something eventually. I'm pretty good at making friends so once I'm "out there" I'm sure I won't have a problem meeting people.

I'll keep you posted on how it's going.

Please do keep posting & keep people posted; Despite the occasional stupid posters, people here do seem to care about each other's opinions & problems; The numbers here are growing all the time! I'd love to see channel4 (4-ch) become as big as the original channel2...

This does relate to the internet, though, because the internet = salvation after moving out of town.

I moved to a different state right before high school, so i had absolutely no idea what to do. the best thing to do is just find the best hangouts in the area (if there are any) and go there. go to coffee house open mic nights, shows, just hang out in places. it took me about 3 years to do this, but once i did i met a bunch of people.

plus, the internet is good for keeping in touch with old friends. i still talk to my first crush from 3rd grade. woo internet.

have you heard of a place called the g4tv forums? they're nice aslong as you don't make an ass of yourself. they have an obsession for anipoo and Japanese women, there is also a furry, his name is Pouncey.

It's quite ironic really: moot, a poster from ADTRW (Something Awful's anime forum), founded 4chan as an English 2ch-style imageboard dedicated to anime and Japanese culture, and yet it happens to have few real Japanophiles.

That's because the overwhelming majority of it is /b/ and /r/ and the crap they spread throughout the website. /a/ can be a pretty decent board sometimes.

And if you want numbers, well there's always Gaia Online. >_<

A community is only as good as the members involved. If you want someone to chat with, then 4-ch is as good a place as any other - well 4-ch is better than most discussion forums because it is much easier to discuss things in a 2ch style system. If you are just bored, may I suggest you invest time in a hobby rather than on the net?

You act like the lack of japanophilia is a BAD thing...

24 Name: Anonymous Addict : 2007-04-18 13:34 ID:uHtVFYza

there are alot of good anime forums out there.

http://www.japanator.com is a good one.

there is this new one the started right where i live. i know the owner and shes pretty cool. http://www.animefood.com

there is also a site, not alot of interaction but alot of funny shit. http://www.masamania.com funny as hell.

and if you really like anime and japanophile stuff, then lurk convention forums. LOTS of people there you can get along with.

yeah, 4-ch is cool, but some of us who aren't real assholes in real life, post here like they are. but i am a real asshole in real life. Just not all the time. but most of the time. shit.
