http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2421278 basically sums my thoughts up perfectly.
It's so annoying to have a conversation with someone and then they say something like "orly?" or "my pokemans let me show you them" (WORST FUCKING MEME EVER) or "it's over 9000 (TIED FOR WORST FUCKING MEME EVER)" or "winnar" or "teh" or "desu" or anything. God damn. I want to punch them in the mouth, then in the throat. Then break their ankles so they can't follow me as I walk away to somewhere with people who don't use Internet jokes in non-Internet conversations.
You speak the truth sir. I barely browse 4chan anymore, and when I do, I rarely go to /b/.
>>136
They probably did understand your memes. Hence they got shitty with you. A couple of my friends often "meme-speak". I have to pretend that I don't know what they're saying and ignore them, because believe it or not, I think it's embarrassing to be caught browsing /b/. Especially as of late, if you know what I mean.
I don't know what you mean.
Oh god, I agree so hard.
Once while in a mall, a friend of mine saw a picture of a black guy on a DVD or something and thought it would be funny to say "Pool's closed due to AIDS". Granted, they didn't yell it or anything, and it was before 4chan got as stupidly popular as it is now, but I chewed them out pretty good nonetheless.
It especially bothers me when people use memes without realizing where they came from or why they're funny. I used to frequent /b/ because people were generally witty. In a stupid, jerk-off sort of way, but they were amusing.

Chanology was basically the final sign that 4chan has become a total shithole, though I think the Fox thing was when it really started going to hell. Half the fun of 4chan was originally how sort of... secret it was? You felt like you were in some sort of SPECIAL CLUB or something. That's why rules 1 and 2 existed; to keep idiots from finding out about 4chan, and to keep you from sounding like a retard.
But yeah, since Project Chanology? Even my parents know about Anonymous. And the thing is that protesting Scientology is a worthy cause, but no-one can take us seriously about it. The masks are great, maybe, and a couple of inside jokes among the Anon are funny, but shouting about mudkips at a church that has no idea what the fuck you're talking about? Incredibly retarded.
TL;DR: Dumb people suck and if you're going to protest do it properly.
The decent posters lost control of /b/ within a couple months, it used to be that you would see great numbers of people posting against meme spamming saying things to the effect of 'it isn't funny, let's keep making original stuff, etc.'. Interesting huh, /b/ (or some of its users) was AGAINST memes at one point. Really it supports the idea of an image board where the theme is "random".
Actually I never really spent much time in /b/, but I remember when the site got popular all of the boards got infected with the mindset of /b/. To the memespamming idiot, 4chan IS /b/. So going back to the topic at hand, memes ruin the internet just as much as real life.
>>143
were you part of the raspberry heaven crew or what.
i mean i wasn't that early along but at no point did i ever see anything like what you are describing.
You are an epic faggot. I seriously can't stand people like you, thinking they're so hip to internet culture by spewing this crap all over the place. Sure I could too, but why would I want to look like such a penis?
I barely go to any /b/s anymore, 4chans now moves so fast its basically a loosely chan based chatroom with a userbase of underage myspace kids (the 4chan facebook group has some 7000 members ffs). 7chan is definitely going the same way, and I never liked 420 in the first place. Some other imageboards like iichan are alright, but I think the magic that existed in the beginning is dead forever and will never return. The cats out of the bag.

You win some you lose some. I for one, met some interesting people at the protests, and now we hang out and go and do stuff together. Memes are kept to a minimum, and there's been some development of the local meme. (Won't mention any for fear of deanoning myself here, but let's just say they exist.) That being said, most of the current channology "anons" have either left 4chan far behind, are ex GNAA, or are newfags along for the ride.
4chan's /b/ gained the same status as gaiaonline a while back, so who cares anymore. Seriously.
YOU ALL KNOW NOTHING! NOTHING!

My collection of bad memes? Let me show you them.
Shocking news. Idiots are everywhere. They're also very vocal.
Statistically, the more people you have at one place in time that's unmoderated, the more you'll hear an idiot rather than a smart person.
At least with small numbers, you can ignore the idiots for a while, but when numbers are huge, it's just way too damn tiring to wade through the idiots. You start to lose hope, because that's all you see.
I'm not saying that there's a static percentage of users who are idiots within every internet community, but just that it's statistically impossible to have a large userbase and not have idiots screaming everywhere, desperate to be heard and appreciated, without lots of moderation.
im on 4chan the most time of the day, i never used a meme IRL.
my friend whom i told about 4chan (he visits it daily now too, he's a newfag hired by an oldfag) uses the catchphrases and memes IRL and everytime he does that he gets trolled to death by me.
In March 2007 when /b/ had Metronomy - You could easily have me playing I had it stuck in my head all day and whistled it a few times when no one was around.
Thank God i live in Europe , where LULZ and SAGE does not exist.

Jesus christ I hate that website.
:o britchanftl.
people need to realize that /b/ is not cool or "badass" at all
its sick and disgusting. if you were anything like the true /b/tards of 4-5 years ago, you deserve to be wiped from the earth or put into a mental asylum. society looks down on you sick fucks. you should all die or better yet just seriously kill yourself. society doesn't need degenerates like you. I'm not talking about those "new" /b/tards who make themselves known, I'm talking about the old true /b/tards who deep down inside want to rape and mutilate a baby. you all need to be locked away for good. the new /b/tards though. they're just annoying but pose no actual threat to society.
so if you think you're "badass" for being /b/ and want to make it known, think again about what /b/ really is (or rather was) and then think how life in an insane asylum with strange doctors analyzing your FUBAR mind for the rest of your life sounds like.
there's my view on it. and I came to 4chan's /b/ at around 2-3 years ago, but I moved out of it to /v/. Good thing, I could have been corrupted on the inside to the point of no return and one day become a psychopathic child rapist/killer.
tl;dr: you're not cool for being a /b/tard, you're a sick degenerate fuck who doesn't deserve to live in today's society.
>>its sick and disgusting
Nah, not even that anymore. It's just stupid. It was good for a laugh or a "OMGWTFKILLITWITHFIRE!" some time ago, but now it's just ..stupid.
Oh and anyone who uses 4ch memes ouside 4chan is annyoing too.
People who use 4chan/internet memes are annoying.
people are annoying

I laughed.
I hate the internet.

it's weird seeing [adult swim] make fun of "karen" every other bumper now
"Karen" feels exhausted as a joke and it probably isn't even that old.
Nuclear nostalgia bomb, damn. There aren't a lot of things I can really say are worth going back in time for, but I'd take mid-2000s imageboard posters over modern imageboard posters any day.
I desperately miss this.
Desu is still used, but im not sure how much is due to filtering
The Mainichi Shimbun reported in a column published on July 17, 2008, "While interviewing Akihabara-doriuma's home, he encountered a young man who shot the suspect's room with a mobile phone and shouted "Terawaros". However, I felt the "collapse of morals" with my skin." The fact that the national newspaper used the 2-channel term and that it was reported to have been used in the real world has received a great response on the internet.

You only miss it because you associate it with better times. When you really break it down it's just the same shit we have today; funny reference repeated ad-nauseam until it loses all meaning

Everyone's pathetic and uncreative these days. It's gotten to the point where I can predict what x site is saying about x and how with 99.9% certainty. Get off your high horse.
>Everyone's pathetic and uncreative these days. It's gotten to the point where I can predict what x site is saying about x and how with 99.9% certainty.
Probably because the internet becomes predictable after using it for a while especially because of how homogenized it has become and the ones who aren't are usually contrarian.
The modern internet sucks i like coming back here still reading old post from the golden age of the internet every once in awhile.
I think using 4chan memes/internet memes irl is fine as long as it is between you and another person who also understands the humor knows what you're talking about and they themselves are also a 4chan user.
Gee Bill, how come your mom lets you have TWO wieners?
It was me, I was the underage b& who talked about 4chan in real life back in the late 2000s, and I was the cancer killing /b/. I'm sorry, but only a little bit.
This thread aged well.

Holy fuck, I know right? fourteen years and fucking nothing has changed. If any of you newfags are reading this, please, for the love of God, don't use internet/4chan lingo IRL, you will look like a tool.
I have fond memories of announcing that the pool was closed irl. I don't regret a moment.
Saying it's over 9000 at this point is something that only acceptable for a DBZ-obsessed 9 year old to do, and honestly as a former member of that group, seeing one warms my heart.
I spammed goatse irl in elementary school
