Coming to an Internet in a shower near you (13)

Hey fellow addicts,

I think I've crossed the line. If there's something I like as much as the Internet, it's taking a shower. Especially hot ones. It's one of those things that feels great no matter what time of day, and it's so unbelievingly awesome.

I was bored tonight and said, "Hm, what if I got the Internet in the shower?"

A half hour later, I had an email reader in my shower. I use Mac OS X and a program called Proxi(0) that pushes mail and Twitter notifications to my Griffin PowerMate(1), and it allows you to do tons of other things, including writing to a file. I made it so that on each new mail message that arrives into the inbox, it appends to a file the title of the email and who it's from to a file called MailArchive.

I then got out Learning Perl and put together a short 14-line script that pulls the entires from that file, displays the n latest posts (currently set to 100, may be more) via the tail command, and added some templating and javascript to the mix to make it scroll automatically.

Now, which device was I going to view this on and how was I going to waterproof it? I had the Opera browser for the Nintendo DS, and a Ziploc bag is just the right size to fit my DS Lite. I put it in there, sealed the bag, launched Mail, and entered the shower (the URL was already loaded into the DS).

I waited a bit for Mail to pull the emails off of Gmail since I usually check my email once a day and get from 70 to 200 emails a day, and then I tapped the reload icon through the plastic bag. To my amazement, the script worked and it pulled all 72 emails in my inbox and scrolled through them as I got squeaky clean.

Best. Shower. Ever.

You are advertising a site which has nothing to do with your post.

>>5 Actually, I was merely pointing out what I used to get my script to tail in to the text files the app was generating.

But sure, I'll stop posting links to anything in the future.

I thought it was cool... If a little disturbing. Doesn't the steam cloud up the ziploc? Is the ziploc stem resistant, too? (O_o);;

Growl on speech notification, problem solved.

You did all this during 1 shower?! Amazing!

But seriously, the best thing you could think of was to read mail? Porn GO! Probably the world's greatest masturbation could be done in that setting.

Maybe if we lived in a world where water wasn't a limited resource and we didn't get all wrinkly after only 20 minutes in the shower.

Just a thought, but wouldn't it be annoying holding the DS and tying up one hand? Kinda makes it hard to wash yourself I think.
