Krautchan.net was a German imageboard that was created on the first of may 2007 as successor site to a previous imageboard called Einskanal that was neglected and closed one month before the creation of Krautchan.
It was the first German imageboard with activity high enough to not be considered obscure, many German internet users and imageboarders used to lurk Krautchan either their whole internet time or just partially. /b/ accumulated over 13 million posts in almost 11 years of existence.
It was known for various trolling actions in Germany. It created various memes that spread through the German net and especially influenced German internet slang.
It was known for the creation of the /int/ board initially called /uk/ after the admin created a refugee for Britchan users that lost their site for a time. The /int/ board over time became the fastest English speaking board outside of 4chan almost reaching the 4444444 GET being faster than all the other boards of the site. The board was known for creating memes such as Polandball, Gondola and making reaction images such as sad frog and feels guy popular. 4chan and various other imageboards copied /int/ as either a place for foreigners to post or on-topic board where "international" things can be discussed. /int/ was a popular place where various foreign imageboard users also went either being targeted by raids or seeking refugee from their imageboard's neglect. This is how through Krautchan memes like Kuruminha and Spurdo spread outside their home country's imageboards.
After the loss of the site's domain the admin decided to abandon the project after being tired of hosting the imageboard for almost 11 years.
Now smaller german boards such as Ernstchan and Kohlchan are trying to overtake the crown of main german imageboard.

The other boards made worthwhile contributions to the German net community. In fact, it was the only site on the German internet worth lurking.
But it is funny how all of 4chans cancer uses images that were made on /int/ initially.
The original Krautchan community was probably the best foreign language flavor that existed. Ironically the more restrained atmosphere made it very similar to the old canonical boards and for several years it was a "true" chan. The advent of /int/ and /bant/ styled boards while brilliant in their appeal to bring in new blood made it popular but turned it into something else, similar to what we now see at 4chan. RIP Bernd. Your contributions live on.

KC/int/ has been degrading for years, I sometimes wonder if people post there because they're sentimental about the community or the people who post there; or the mental health of the average Bernd is deteriorating with age. It's not like imageboards that aren't 4chan are getting hoards of new users.
I have no idea about the German boards other than when I used to use the site there were posts about from years before on the front page of most of them.

I was Krautchan /int/ for years. Pedos were always an issue but manageable. It got worse near the end, but once it died and Kohlchan came around the floodgates were open. Bernds tried to start various other chans, ernstchan, subboards on 8chan and endchan, a couple other chans I can't remember. None of them quite gained the traction of Kohlchan, since everybody was already there. After telling pedos to kill themselves every day for half a year I got tired of it and left. Nowadays I'm on 4chan /pol/. It has it's own problems, but at least there's no pedos.
Kohlchan's latest problem is advertising the site to "post-ironic" twitter shitposters via their zine cabal. If you've ever wondered where the 4channisms on modern day kc come from well, there's you answer.
It kind of freaks me out that (an incarnation of) KC still exists and people still use it, /int/ at least. Maybe permanency does exist on the internet.
