and chinese! i was right

6 Name: Anonymous Linguist : 2006-07-22 18:43 ID:qwScHamO

English is probably a lot higher since those numbers are just native speakers.

7 Name: Anonymous Linguist : 2006-07-24 00:12 ID:fYd0ncVu

Chinese is probably pretty high too, not that many Chinese people know English. They're like separate Internets.

I see. probably you are right.
But I know Japanese internet users are also pretty much separated from English world.
I surf both japanese and english sites
and I usually find there are no japanese people
at all on english sites
while japanese people are usually stuck with japanese pages
they never visit english sites or always use google translation.

i don't mean to sound racist, but if you somehow incorporated starcraft into those statistics koreans would dominate amazingly

14 Name: Anonymous Linguist : 2006-08-20 14:00 ID:Heaven

according to that site, the statistics are based on the "total number of people online", which i would think means the number of people who access to the internet, not just the number of people who access one small part of it.

this is interesting, too:

English	68.4%
Japanese 5.9%
German 5.8%
Chinese 3.9%
French 3.0%
Spanish 2.4%
Russian 1.9%
Italian 1.6%
Portuguese 1.4%
Korean 1.3%
Other 4.6%

German is awesome. It has words like Donaudampfschifffahrtsgesellschaftskapitänsmützenschirmfarbpfützenreinigungspersonalagenturchefsbürotürklinkenpoliturfabrikantenkonferenzsaalhelferstochter.

The only real way to gauge that would be based on net usage per capita by country...

Who wants to get started on that statistic?
