Teaching Yourself a Language (8)

I've been wanting to learn a new language, but there is no one in my area who is teaching any kind of language... So, I'm on my own, but I really do want to learn. I'm wondering, would you guys have any suggestions on a program(s) that would help me out with learning, at least, the basics of a language?

Just focus on a language you really want to learn, and keep motivated.

As for programs or websites, try looking around on Google.

Mandarin is the most useful.

No community colleges? No ethnic enclaves?
You really should be certain that there's no way to learn a language with other people before embarking on it yourself. For one, it's easy to lose interest after a point, for another, language acquisition isn't something that happens very well with books and videos.

If you want to travel and exchange with other cultures, learn Spanish. With it, you'll be able to communicate with a great part of Central and South America's peoples.

www.babbel.com - you can learn there German, Spanish, French and Italian.
It's a good site for everyone - doesn't matter if you're a beginner or a prof.
And you can chat with other people there - via messages or VoIP. You can learn a lot from there - and if English is your mother tongue, you can help them, too, if you want. :)

Great advice guys. I appreciate it. I'm glad to see that there's a chan in the world that isn't absolutely chock full of sociopathic retards.
