The secret admirer gambit (17)

Has anyone ever tried it? I'm starting to think it may be my only recourse thanks to my crippling social anxiety. Would it be too stalkerish in today's social climate?

It's cute if you're 8 years old. If you're not, there's much more effective things you can do.

Talking to girls is half the fun. Sorry to those who've got other issues, but it is. If you can't do that, then you should handle whatever's holding you back instead of trying to find some other way to express yourself.

Why did you assume that >>1 is male? This board is getting to be too "one-sided." Even if you are correct, that detail wasn't stated, so...

I dunno, I'd say there's a significant difference between secretly admiring, and stalking. Like, you know, the whole stalking bit.

Dont be a "secret admirer" so much, not generally a good idea. Approach women. Don't waste time by being a weirdo.

"Secret admirer" approach worked for my dad. Somewhat. He'd send my mother a bouquet of flowers after every performance (she was a musician).

Of course, he didn't stalk her. He got to know her by approaching her directly. She didn't find out it was him that was sending the flowers until a year into their relationship.

The problem with secret admirer is that you'll come across as NEEDY and DEPENDENT - not qualities that appeal to women, IMO.

But it really depends on the type of girl. Is she the life of the party clubber type or the more homely type?

I got "secret admirer" letters before. They creeped me out because when I thought back about it, the guy had been looking my way a lot and I hadn't thought much of it. Then when I got it I got the feeling he was always looking at me. It also creeped me out when one came right to my house when he should have had no way to know my address.

I think if it was a guy I actually knew and talked to it wouldn't feel like a stalker thing as much. Like if he gave them to me while we were friends and then told me he liked me after we knew each other.

But still it's risky business.

I'm definately not the party clubber type and was still creeped out by it...

I guess I should say, he said who he was in the last letter, that is how I knew who he was.. They were still "secret" letters though I guess.

So how did ya react to him? Rejected outright or put him down gently?

Just playing the odds. Change "girls" to "the opposite sex" if you like.

Yes, and I guess they could be aliens from another dimension too. Let's just assume I meant any possible conscious entity in the universe.

Actually, due to really unlucky timing on his part, I thought the letters were a prank being pulled on me, because that had happened to me before. I didn't figure out they were for real until about a month later and I saw him staring at me... I had no idea what to say, especially since I threw the letters out without even reading them. I still feel bad about it, he moved away shortly after that so I have no idea what happened to him.
