Women don't like long hair (73)

1 Name: Secret Admirer : 2006-08-05 18:32 ID:Z1yP0PMw

I used to have long hair. I decided to get it cut one day. Now everyone showers me with compliments, but nothing else has changed. I'm still just the same. I'm kind of pissed that I didn't get it cut sooner, sounds like I actually would've had some opportunities in college if I had short hair.

Long hair must scream, "dirty, lazy, pot-smoking, unemployed, won't get a job, liberal, hippie" to everyone...unless you're a rockstar or successful artist of some sort.

You know they actually put stockings on their head overnight to make it straight? Fucking true story, I was like wtf when one of them told me the tricks of the trade.

Long hair just only isn't good for you when your hair is frizzy and is excessively long. But hair past like your boobs are getting kinda... You're right, messy/dirty/lazy/whatever.

Stockings? I never heard of that one. How does that work?

27 Name: Secret Admirer : 2006-08-08 20:08 ID:Y0GRpLWf

Long hair that is well maintained looks good, the same way short hair that is well maintained looks good.
Greasy, shabby looking hair looks bad, regardless of hairlength.
There's also the bit about that some people look good both in long hair and short, while as a lot of people do not look good in both, but just one. Though the kind of haircut one has with long/short length does matter a lot as well: All facial shapes are not created equal, and every hairstyle does not work with every kind of face/body style.

That said, I personally find long, well maintained and healthy hair on both genders attractive and impressive, as it does take a certain amount of effort and skill to achieve healthy, long hair. I have nothing against short hair, though. Whatever is good, as long as it actually looks good.

I had hair just passed my shoulders in a tail. Got it cut and EVERY girl I know yelled at me! Several told me I needed to grow it longer because it looked good. Darnit. I guess it depends on hair type and how much you care for it?

Hello. I usually just lurk here, but I decided to post here regarding this issue. I know from experience that trying to have long hair can be painful. My hair is naturally curly and frizzy, so I have alot of trouble maintaining it. I've had it chemically straightened, but that only works to a certain extent. I liks long hair and cool looking guys with long hair, but sometimes I just don't know what to do. Sometimes I have thought about just cutting it off, but then I would miss it. I often wonder if girls are never into me because of my hair. I'm 18 years old and I've never had a girlfriend. I'm not that bad looking, but girls just don't seem to be into me, though this was a problem back when I had short hair.

30 Name: Secret Admirer : 2006-08-10 18:10 ID:Z1yP0PMw

>>29
Then your hair is not entirely the problem, though it could be making it worse than it was when you had it short.

31 Name: Secret Admirer : 2006-08-11 00:52 ID:Ah6sIXDx

well in some cultures a lot of girls like long hair
like in Indonesia the girls love it

32 Name: Secret Admirer : 2006-08-11 02:21 ID:fM5ilacK

>>27 is right. I see a lot of guys with long hair that's greasy and nasty but they think it's cool or whatever 'cause it's long and they're imitating Sephiroth or something. Pretty gross.

And about frizzy hair, you can get a perm to bring out your natural curls and waves and toning down the frizziness.

I took very good care of my hair. It was shiny and smooth. While I may have received a handful of compliments, they were mostly from my hairdresser and mom. Most people I know pestered me to cut it. Based on my results, long hair made me even less attractive and appealing than I already had been. I also had difficulty getting a job when it was long. Maybe it just doesn't suit me?

>>31
Yes, it does depend on the culture, and most Western cultures look down on men with long hair.

34 Name: Secret Admirer : 2006-08-12 01:31 ID:Heaven

>most Western cultures look down on men with long hair.

haven't noticed this myself. maybe by "most" you mean "your suburb".

35 Name: Secret Admirer : 2006-08-12 04:02 ID:/x0Mt6hE

>>34
No, it's quite true. Unless your suburb is full of long haired hippies.

I'm not sure if it actually straightens hair, but I'm African-American and my mom used to put stockings on my head when I was a kid. She pretty much just put the top of the stocking on my head and wrap the legs of it around.. then top it with a scarf to make sure it stayed. Eh, it kept the hair neat if anything.

37 Name: Secret Admirer : 2006-08-12 06:12 ID:5wVCHQE2

My last two girlfriends both enjoyed my hair when it used to be long.

38 Name: Secret Admirer : 2006-08-12 15:29 ID:Z5f2Cb7t

Long hair can be nice. I just don't like it too long on a guy-- shoulder length is enough. And for girls... the same could be said. I just can't stand it when guys have their hair shaven down or whatever, like most black guys. Nothing to play with.

39 Name: Secret Admirer : 2006-08-12 16:30 ID:VCaP+xxv

I myself prefer long hair on guys. but it has to suit the person well. some people are better off with long hair and some aren't. now, the problem i believe is more important here, is the stereotype. most guys who have long hair usually (emphasis on usually) don't really take care of their hair. and their lifestyle is also associated with long hair. computer nerds, pot smokers, metal heads, w/e it may be. and not too many girls are interested in above mentioned type of people. (although, i must say that i have a thing for computer nerds for i am as well)

now, if you take good care of your hair (no frizzy/greasy hair) and portray an image of a regular guy who happens to have long hair, i think you'd have a better chance at it. the task is to break the stereotypes that's associated with such hairstyle

40 Name: Secret Admirer : 2006-08-12 16:49 ID:Z1yP0PMw

No, the stereotype still sticks, regardless of good grooming and hygiene.

..That norwegian bloke's hair doesn't look bad (though possibly a different haircut would do him good), but the rest of him looks bad. Which is one hell of a pity because it wouldn't take much effort to make him look decent, and possibly quite good even.

>>40
Lies. Let's take a white t-shirt as an example... It can be kept dirty, sloppy, and torn, and that will make it look hobotastic.
Kept clean and crisp, it will look good. The same applies to people. A lot of people fail to realize that good looks are only partially dependant on genes for most people. HOW you present what you've got matters a great deal. Keep it neat and stylish, wear good looking clothes that highlight your good features, and you look a bloody lot more handsome than wearing some sloppy old shirt you've got left over before laundry day, sneakers that should have been replaced a half a year ago, etc.

>>33
When it comes to jobs, the rule is generally that short is to prefer, as it's easier to keep looking decent. Also, stiff businessmen do not want to have to worry about the bloke spending too much time worrying about maintaining his looks (as short hair doesn't require as much poking around with outside of the hairdressers) when he could be spending time at working for them. It might be that long hair doesn't suit you, or it might just be that the cultural preference in your area is that short is better, regardless of how good one looks in long hair. I don't know. I have a friend who dislikes long hair on guys regardless of what, with a very few celebrity exceptions. She grew up with a lot of stereotypes about how men should be: No crying ever, possibly a few tears running down a poker face at really bad times, for instance if someone they care about died, etc. Well trained and muscular at all times, short hair, not completely shaven off but around an inch is good or so. Etc. The strong, silent protector type of person. You can't do much about it when it's cultural like that. It's up to you to decide whether it's best to follow their idea of good looks, or if you feel better doing things differently. If you look good both ways, then I imagine it doesn't really matter much for you to follow the ideas of what "good looks" are like in your immediate environment.

>>37
I enjoy my boyfriend's long hair. It's fun to play with, it looks good on him, and he keeps it well maintained. He possibly looks better in long hair than short, too, as he has damned good (hair) genes (his siblings look like bloody models, envy!). That makes him look more remarkable and personal than with really short hair. Sort of like a really good frame around a picture, that highlights all the right details.

I see, most of these pics are shaggy, not long, only Kurt Cobain and that redhead would qualify as long. Plus they're mostly celebrities. Find a real example. I had mine shaggy for a while, then it turned into something similar to that redheaded freak of nature, and I kept it that way for some stupid reason for a long time. What...was...I...thinking?

I just have no sense of style. The fashion police should just do everyone a favor and lock me up for life.

I love long hair for guys <3 !!! Sooo cute and wild.

I used to have long hair, it was never particularly clean because I couldn't care less about hygiene back then. Also I was a geek, total loser and extremely shy. Cute girls were chasing after me anyway. Only I was so shy I never acted on it lol.

I've never had a problem getting a job with my long hair. If anything it makes landing a programming job easier in my particular field, what with the hardcore hacker stereotype and all. (Of course the beard helps too.) If you really need to impress the suit types in the first interview, wear it in a ponytail or equivalent.

Of course women don't like long hair. It makes YOU look like a woman and like you enjoy other dudes' dicks.

Get a hair cut hippie.

I have long hair.

I kept my hair short up until 10th grade. I looked in the mirror one day, and realized that I looked like a complete tool with short hair. All of my facial features looked completely out of proportion (nose, ears, etc), so I stopped getting regular haircuts.

Four years or so later, I have long hair that I always keep in a ponytail unless I'm showering or sleeping. On that note, I always keep it very clean, and I comb it as well. I'm not a "dirty hippie" (well, at least not dirty, orz)

I'm thinking about getting a haircut just for a change of pace, but I can't think of any other style that would look reasonably good on me other than what I have now. My hair is far too thick and wavy to do anything with, without straightening it first. And even then, the thickness is a problem. I wish I would go half-way bald so it would be normal ._.

Considering how you feel about it, it's pretty ironic that there's a lot of people out there who would kill to have hair like your, aye?

56 Name: Secret Admirer : 2006-08-21 23:29 ID:Heaven

Guys with long hair are subconsciously gay.

57 Name: Secret Admirer : 2006-08-22 02:04 ID:Heaven

>>55

True enough, haha. I suppose I should be thankful that I'm never going to have to worry about being completely bald when I get old.

When/if I do get it cut, though, I'm going to have it donated to Locks of Love. I don't understand why everyone doesn't do it. I mean, you're not gonna use the hair after you cut it, right?

>>54

>death metal headbanger

Whenever I'm at a concert, everyone always tells me to take my hair down and do some headbanging, so I do (・∀・)

58 Name: Secret Admirer : 2006-09-02 07:43 ID:CWExiR/j

I have always held a very objective and sound theory on long hair:

scarcity breeds probability

Less guys have long hair than short hair. The amount of women who find long hair attractive remains constant.

That said, I usually shave my head down to the scalp from an indeterminate mental disorder which I liken to what happens to Pedro in Napoleon Dynamite before he gets elected.

The time of the year when I shave is coming around, and school is starting. I think I will keep it though, because shampooing is kind of fun, and I like getting snow in my hair and pushing it back in the wind. It's romantic. :)

Locks of Love have certain criteria that have to be met, such as hair length, even when I had mine cut it wasn't long enough. It was disappointing to find out I couldn't donate it.

I seriously have this friend who in 8th grade donated about 3 wigs worth of hair to Locks of Love...

61 Name: Secret Admirer : 2006-09-16 10:31 ID:0y6phlMN

I think you should look for some native american girl. For the indians, long hair is and was the traditional standard, so they are less likely to associate it with negative stereotypes.

Of course, having the right kind of nose/color about you would also help in this regard.

That and finding hot native american chicks is damn near impossible.

Yes. Clean. So important. Groom it as if you're a girl.

65 Name: Secret Admirer : 2006-09-17 05:14 ID:G0EXX+u4

I think it's not so much the fact that it's long, but if you're not taking really good care of it, it's more obvious if there's length to it.

There are few things less attractive than a guy with greasy, stringy, dandruff-filled long hair, and putting it in a ponytail or hiding it with a hat just makes it more obvious.

On the other hand, if it's clean and shiny, it can be very attractive.

66 Name: ND : 2007-07-23 01:19 ID:HpxDvQNN

Personally, I find nothing wrong with long hair unless the hair is as >>65 described...If you use say, pantene and stuff, and you have good body odor to boot, then I don't see why women would dislike it...

67 Name: Secret Admirer : 2007-07-23 08:19 ID:sxcPUzpD

I had short hair for years, then decided to grew it long. Due to my 'situation' I didn't really get any compliments, so had no idea if it suited me. The rare ones I got were from people probably just trying to be nice. I have fine hair so at the time I couldn't imagine it would make life more difficult, then it got windy -_- Oddly enough I managed to keep it for around a year, so again i'm someone who thinks of the good things that could've happened..I did have a relationship but due to my recent understanding of such things, was all down to personality lulz. I had it cut, but due to the nature of my hair it was done 'wrong' and looked fucking horrible for so long. I had to wait for drunk people to make fun of me to actually realise because no one told me.

It made me feel confident when I thought it looked awesome, and even more shit when down. Now i'm just trying to get it as short as possible without getting it shaved, cause I don't think that would suit me, even if I want to get used to the idea eventually.

68 Name: Secret Admirer : 2007-07-23 13:31 ID:bj9/irv0

I looove guys with long hair. of course, it can't be dirty lol.
I find most of the usual short haircuts guys get unattractive.

69 Name: Secret Admirer : 2007-07-23 16:21 ID:u/mHV7zA

omg, nerds.

Most women do not like men with long hair - but not for the reason you seem to think. The issue is not whether the hair is well-groomed or not. Most women simply think that short hair looks on guys looks better. Period.

70 Name: Secret Admirer : 2007-07-23 17:24 ID:MCjRtN17

I got my hair cut when it was pretty long (nearly enough for a ponytail) down to really short. I absolutely hated it and practically mourned for my hair. But my girlfriend said she liked it - now I can't decide how long to keep it. Maybe I'll stay at medium to keep us both happy.

71 Name: Secret Admirer : 2007-07-24 00:26 ID:fPgjledv

Fuck that, I'm not changing my hair just to satisfy more women. If the woman cares about that, she's the wrong one for me anyway.
