Rekindling an old long distance relationship (7)

To start, I am one of those people who have never had a "irl" girlfriend in the last 18 years and focus all their time and attention in other areas of life like school, hobbies, friends.

With one exception; I was fortunate enough at the age of 14 to have developed a relationship with a Japanese Pen pal (hence the dawn of weeaboohood). And yes, I have confirmed without a doubt that she is who she is. We were together from late 2002 - 2004, when we had a lapse in communication (I blame myself), followed by another period of communication in the second half of 2005 which ended 13 months ago. In the meantime I have attempted to start a handful of other relationships that have collapsed before they started, and although they were all unique situations, I made the mistake of talking about her to each of these girls.

So I find myself at a crossroads now; Is it smart to try to find another person despite holding a candle for the same girl for the last 4 years, or do I swallow my pride and write back in an attempt to rekindle a relationship with the only person I've truly cared about.

Now I ask you 4-ch, what is the best course of action to take? Or am I not aware of factors I should have realized by now?
