Breaking up (10)

I haven't had a relationship. I just wanted to comment about Facebook. I was feeling depressed and sympathetic for my two friends who broke up all day, and by late night it seemed they had gotten over it and I did too. I assumed they would get back together someday.

Then someone informed me that they learned about the breakup through Facebook. So now I just checked and indeed it is broken. For some reason, imagining one of them going through the motions of removing the "In a Relationship" status seemed the most horrible thing possible. It's horrible! Ahhhh! I feel horrible all over again!

Haha, it's like the people who move others off of their top friends list on MySpace in order to send subtle messages to them.

I personally hate all this "online culture" intruding into relationships... I've seen people remove others from their friend lists, things like that... While I love internet culture and sites like that, I think it's ridiculous that it's reached that level... A friend just recently explained why she doesn't keep another person on her friends list on her journal, and I can actually see why, as it's ridiculous how now people have all these subtle things on social networking sites to be hurt by, in addition to not being in a relationship...

A relationship's a kind of boat.. Very big, and slow moving at times, people on board panic when it starts to sink, or goes in the wrong direction...

A relationship is solving together problems you'd never have had alone.

on facebook i just have it set to "in a relationship" without specifying who. some people know who it is because theyve met or heard about her, others wont know who she is.

as for the whole "top friends" and "friends list" thing - i didnt have so much trouble with myspace because not many people from my old school etc have that. on facebook its a bit easier for them to find me, through people that i do want to add and talk to. this means i have people on there who i dont ever talk to online and will only bump into them by chance when im out. ive made a point not to add anybody if its going to be like that. if somebody adds me then thats fine but i just make a point to avoid adding anybody (besides my best friends) and its still managed to grow.

Its weird. When my boyfriend and I broke up I didn't cry. It was sort of like when someone you care about's just died. It didn't seem real yet. But when I logged on to myspace and changed "in a relationship" to "single", it suddenly hit me all at once and I finally cried. It was very strange.
