Dealing with parents (6)

I have a bit of a dilemma.

I have recently taken a liking to this one girl, who feels mutual attraction to me. However, there is a slight problem: her parents are very overprotective and they come from a culture which is very strict when it comes to controlling their daughters.

Now, I do have some advantages: I have gotten the approval of her brothers and of her mother seems to like me, but the main problem is getting the father to accept my wishes to see his daughter. I do speak their native language and know the sensitivities of their culture, so I do know what I'm getting into.

Anyone else have experience in this, or have ideas on how to approach the father? I mean, it's HER choice in the end, but I think it would definitely help my case if I were able to talk to her father man-to-man about this. Any ideas on what I should say?

Depends on the culture, but depends more on the girl. With a strong-willed girl, she'll do what she wants and usually in the end the parents yield. Esp. true if not still living in the old country, but if she's young and not sure then forget it. Talk to her about it first, but if she's not wanting to fight for her parents to accept you then it's doomed.

Don't upset the parents. Show them you are a worthy individual. Play up your strengths and hide your weakness. You need to prove to them that you can be trusted.

Some parents can't be won over no matter what.

If you did that to my daughter I'd beat you within an inch of your life. Nevertheless I admire your gib.

Way to go: mentioning you deal with particular culture and that you know how to deal with it. You not tell which culture or what situation but still asking for specific, situated advice. Please enlighten FO more.
