Namaste, why is everyone in this board so shy ?

2 Name: Secret Admirer : 2007-09-30 17:38 ID:zMfY3OKf

Because most people who like anime, games, japan, or whatever else is popular here are usually generally shy due to putting more time into their hobby instead of their social life.

I'm about halfway there to not putting so much time into games ;_;.

because we prefer escapism into fantasy where there is no such thing as rejection and everyone is happy

Right, it seems we all know why we are like that.

But maybe we should think of, how all of us could deal with the problem.

Personally, I have tried my best for a period to get out as much as possible and socialize but right now my otakuness has really awaken and i just can't help it.

Anyone else?

If you use the word otakuness and awaken in the same sentence, I suggest you just drop anime to a minimum and get out of the house ASAP. Don't let hobbies>life.

am not an in door person, i love going out, talk to people of all age, samehow that easy but am shy around people, i want escape into fantasy world just to avold them, special avolding crowds but the shocking thing when people look at me, i not seen shy, how do i get over the problem?

The best option/advice against shyness is to just "get out there and do it."

However, that's sorta impossible for some people, like me. Sure every now and then I decide to "go for it," but most of the time either the thoughts of doing specific things don't even cross my mind, or they're there and I "reason" against them.

As for me, it's vice-versa. I was shy long before I got into anime. I had time to get into anime, Japan, computers, music since I was't spending time on other things.

The escapist aspect of anime and similar introverted hobbies usually draws already naturally shy people because it is in extreme cases used as a replacement for life as opposed to being simply one part of life.

However I'd disagree with OP's initial statement that everyone on this board is shy. I am certainly not shy, and I'm on this board. In fact I am very uncomfortable if I am away from friends or family for more then a couple days.

I think part of it is the problem of how to start a conversation. Anyone can say "hi" but what do you do then? Unless you have a specific topic to bring up with a stranger, it turns really awkward. So, people probably just don't bother saying anything at all.6

I'm shy just because I'm really not interested in talking with people. What people have to say is usually boring (not saying that what I'd say is any better though). I hate small talk and that's usually what everything ends up to be.

If I have to say something, I'll say it. Yeah, I'm not good at communication in itself, but I'll still speak up if I have to.

If you have no interest in talking with people, why are you on romance?

Narcissistic echoing, perhaps.

Sounds like me exactly. I honestly couldn't care less about making new friends (in general I dislike most people), but I really wish I had a girlfriend.

I've tried internet dating in order to meet girls while bypassing the "socializing with lots of douchebags" aspect of things, but girls on dating websites don't take it seriously enough (e.g. logging in every other week and not responding to my e-mails for weeks at a time).

Haha, I'm kinda opposite. Due to the fact that with internet we have THE WORLD in our hands, I always like to meet people, not to meet or go into a relationship, but to talk about stuff, hear different opinions, kind of what it's like here...only livelier.
That's why I'm so grateful and happy to be part of the -chan generation. Barriers are gone, dudes.

There is still a barrier to pussy, man.

because when you meet someone new, their first glimpse of you is their biggest judgement. That feels like a lot of pressure for someone if they aren't use to it.
