theres this chick at my work who i have grown to like over the past month. shes really cool, and really hot. I'd ask her out, but if she says no i dont wanna make it awkward for our friends at work and outside of work (we know the same people). Also, i dont know if this is a problem but she is 1 yr older than me (ive heard that girls like older guys). we are friendly towards eachother already and are friends but i dont know at all if she likes me more than that? should i just have a stab at it and ask her out?

One year older isn't that big of a deal.
But work is. never date a chick from work unless the job isn't very important to you or she is going to quit or has quit. It won't end very well otherwise.
I'd say that 4 has a good point as well. Think about your job a bit, and whether you could maintain a professional relationship, AND a personal one. I've heard it's a complicated matter =D
Look at your job, and ask yourself a few questions about whether the girl, or the job is more important. Set some priorities.
When you've done all that, go ahead and ask her out. If she says no, it will inevitably be a bit awkward, but at least the question will be out of your mind. If she says yes, then you can start applying that relationship stuff you (hopefully) thought about before asking her, whether it includes finding another job, or some other fix.

Ask her out for coffer or a drink first, it's a good way to test the waters. Talk leads to stuff, and if she doesn't dig you, it'll be less awkward for everyone else. Less, not completely non-awkward.
