I've done it.

It's done for the same reason couples kiss in front of their friends. To make them jealous.

Also, I'm a bit possessive so I like it if I and my girlfriend are listed in a relationship on Facebook and have pictures together - sort of like a 'stay away' warning for people who meet my girlfriend in class or her coffee shop or whatever who look her up.
